Description

The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford is now accepting applications for its highly respected Journalist Fellowship Programme, an opportunity for mid-career journalists from across the world to spend a period away from their newsrooms exploring the future of journalism. This programme is designed for experienced journalists with a minimum of five years of professional practice, including freelancers, and provides a unique opportunity to reflect, research, and develop new skills in a globally recognized academic environment. The fellowship programme allows journalists to immerse themselves in Oxford’s vibrant intellectual and academic environment, benefiting from access to its libraries, lectures, and research institutes. Fellows will also collaborate with colleagues from around the world, fostering peer learning and knowledge exchange that can influence global media practices. Fellowship Options The Reuters Institute offers several fellowship tracks, each tailored to different thematic and regional priorities: Thomson Reuters Foundation Fellowship – Six fellowships are available to journalists worldwide. These fellowships support projects that investigate contemporary issues in media, technology, or society, allowing participants to explore new perspectives on journalism’s role in the public sphere. Laudes Climate Fellowship – Two fellowships focus on climate journalism. Candidates will develop research or reporting projects addressing climate change, sustainability, and environmental policy, contributing to global awareness and action on pressing environmental challenges. Mona Megalli Fellowship – Aimed at journalists from the Middle East, this fellowship supports work on regional reporting, providing an opportunity for journalists to explore critical social, political, and economic issues affecting the region. Fellowships typically last three to six months, depending on the funding available, and commence in October, January, or April. Fellows are expected to be based in Oxford for the full duration of the fellowship, allowing full engagement with the programme, its resources, and the wider academic community. Funding and Benefits Fellowships at the Reuters Institute are fully funded, enabling participants to focus entirely on their projects without financial constraints.
