Funding Priorities The AJA Foundation focuses its grantmaking on three core pillars. Organizations seeking support must demonstrate a strong and direct alignment with at least one of these areas. Water Support for sustainable water initiatives Priority given to projects in rural Africa Emphasis on long-term access, infrastructure resilience, and community ownership Education Programs supporting disadvantaged students Focus on overcoming financial, academic, or systemic barriers Initiatives that promote equity, access, and measurable educational outcomes Healthcare Delivery of fundamental healthcare services Priority for underserved populations in developing countries Emphasis on access, prevention, and sustainable healthcare systems Eligibility Considerations The Foundation prioritizes organizations that demonstrate: A clear mission aligned with one of the three funding pillars A focus on sustainable and scalable impact Strong organizational governance and accountability Legal nonprofit status, including recognition as a 501(c)(3) organization or equivalent Organizations are encouraged to review the Foundation’s funding history to better understand the types of initiatives and partners previously supported. Application Process Overview The AJA Foundation follows a structured, multi-stage application process designed to ensure alignment and thoughtful use of resources. Step 1: Letter of Inquiry (LOI) The process begins with a short message submitted through the Foundation’s online form The LOI should clearly explain: The organization’s mission and activities How the proposed program aligns with one philanthropic pillar The intended impact and population served The message is limited to 650 characters and should be concise and focused If the Foundation identifies strong alignment and has sufficient budget availability for the year, the organization may be invited to proceed to the next stage. Step 2: Full Proposal (By Invitation Only) Selected organizations receive instructions to access the online application portal Applicants are given 60 days to complete and submit a full proposal Proposals undergo a comprehensive review process that may take up to six months Funding decisions are generally made in the order proposals are received Application Timing and Frequency Letters of Inquiry are accepted on a rolling basis with no fixed deadlines Applicants can expect a response to an LOI within approximately six weeks Due to funding constraints: Only one request per organization is considered per year If a request is declined, the organization may reapply after 12 months from the date of the declination notice Geographic Scope and Grant Size The AJA Foundation funds projects globally Grant sizes vary depending on the nature, scope, and sustainability of the program Prospective applicants are encouraged to consult the Foundation’s funding history for illustrative examples Governance and Oversight The Foundation is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors The Board provides strategic oversight and ensures that all funding aligns with the Foundation’s mission and values Transparency and responsible stewardship of resources are central to decision-making Key Information Required in the LOI Form Applicants will be asked to provide: Organization name and website Contact name and email address Alignment with one of the three funding pillars Confirmation of 501(c)(3) status (or equivalent) Employer Identification Number (EIN), if applicable A short message outlining program alignment and impact Commitment to Sustainable Impact The AJA Foundation invests in organizations that demonstrate a commitment to creating meaningful, measurable, and lasting change.
