The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) has announced its 2026 internship programme for the period June to August. The internship is designed to provide practical, hands-on experience for university students in fields related to petroleum regulation, energy governance, and associated technical and administrative disciplines. PAU is a statutory body established under the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act Cap. 161, operating under Uganda’s National Oil and Gas Policy of 2008. The Authority is responsible for regulating and monitoring petroleum exploration, development, production, refining, transportation, and storage in Uganda, ensuring compliance with national laws and international best practices. Internship Overview The 2026 internship programme is structured as a short-term professional learning opportunity aimed at strengthening students’ technical and workplace skills. Duration: Maximum of 3 months (June–August 2026) Type: Full-time internship placement Target group: Continuing university students from recognised institutions Mode of application: Online only The programme provides exposure to real operational environments within Uganda’s petroleum sector regulatory framework. Purpose of the Internship The internship is designed to: Provide practical exposure to petroleum sector regulation and governance Bridge academic learning with real-world industry experience Develop technical and professional competencies in energy-related fields Support capacity building for Uganda’s emerging workforce in the oil and gas sector Familiarize students with regulatory systems, compliance frameworks, and industry standards The programme aligns with PAU’s broader mandate of ensuring efficient, transparent, and sustainable management of petroleum resources. Eligible Fields of Study Applicants must be pursuing studies relevant to PAU’s operational mandate. Eligible academic disciplines include: Geology and Geophysics Engineering Environmental Science Finance and Accounting Procurement and Supply Chain Management Information Technology / Computer Science Economics Statistics Law Communications / Public Relations Human Resource Management and Administration These disciplines reflect the multidisciplinary nature of petroleum regulation and industry oversight. Eligibility Criteria To qualify for the internship programme, applicants must: Be continuing students enrolled in a recognised university or higher education institution Provide a recommendation letter from their institution (Centre of Learning) Have a field of study relevant to PAU’s operational areas Demonstrate academic commitment and readiness for professional training Only eligible candidates who meet all requirements will be considered for selection.
