About the African Disability Forum The African Disability Forum is a continental organization of persons with disabilities dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities across Africa. ADF works to advance disability-inclusive development through advocacy, capacity building, policy engagement, and strengthening participation in regional and global decision-making processes. Internship Overview The Advocacy and Communication Internship provides a structured learning opportunity for individuals interested in disability rights and inclusive development. The intern will support the Advocacy and Communication Director in implementing key programmes related to the African Disability Protocol (ADP) and disability-inclusive climate action. Position Details Organization: African Disability Forum (ADF) Position: Advocacy and Communication Intern Focus Area: Disability Inclusive Climate Action & Advocacy Location: Africa (continental organization) Application Deadline: 10 June 2026, 5:00 PM (EAT) Application Method: Email submission Key Responsibilities The selected intern will support ADF’s work in several key areas, including: Advocacy and Policy Engagement Supporting advocacy efforts for the African Disability Protocol (ADP) ratification. Assisting in disability-inclusive climate change advocacy initiatives. Supporting engagement in COP31 and COP32 planning processes. Communication and Coordination Assisting in developing communication materials, concept notes, and advocacy documents. Supporting webinars and engagement activities involving Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs). Coordinating follow-up actions from regional, continental, and global platforms. Research and Documentation Conducting stakeholder mapping and baseline assessments of ADF member organizations. Supporting documentation of advocacy initiatives and policy engagements. Contributing to knowledge development and reporting activities. Programme Support Assisting in planning and implementation of advocacy campaigns. Supporting internal coordination and communication processes. Helping strengthen engagement across disability rights networks in Africa. Learning Opportunities This internship is designed as a professional development opportunity and offers practical exposure to: Disability rights advocacy at continental and global levels. Climate change policy and inclusive climate action frameworks. Work with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs). Policy engagement around the African Disability Protocol. Communication strategy development and advocacy planning. International development and human rights systems. Eligibility and Requirements Applicants should demonstrate: Interest in disability rights, inclusive development, or climate advocacy. Strong communication and coordination skills. Ability to work in a multicultural and rights-based environment. Commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and ethical advocacy practices. Experience or academic background in advocacy, communication, development studies, or related fields is an advantage.
