Building Green Skills for the Future The British Council has launched the Climate Skills Global Collaboration Grants, a new funding opportunity designed to strengthen international partnerships and support green skills development among young people. Grants ranging from £50,000 to £85,000 are available for collaborative projects between organisations in the United Kingdom and five key partner countries: Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Viet Nam. This initiative forms part of the Climate Skills programme, supported by HSBC, which aims to empower young people aged 18 to 30 with the skills, experience, and entrepreneurial capacity needed for green careers. The grants encourage structured, industry-aligned collaborations that foster sustainable development, innovation, and global knowledge exchange. Aims of the Collaboration The Climate Skills Global Collaboration Grants seek to fund projects that promote: Strategic partnerships between UK institutions and partner country organisations focusing on green work pathways and skills development. Co-designed and delivered training and work experience opportunities that equip young people with practical green skills. Knowledge exchange and capacity building to strengthen institutional relationships and support long-term cooperation beyond the grant period. The British Council envisions these collaborations as a catalyst for building a sustainable future, addressing global climate challenges through education, innovation, and collective action. Eligible Organisations Applications are open to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, training providers, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Each application must include at least one UK-based lead institution and one lead partner organisation from one of the eligible countries. Additional partners may join as part of a consortium to enhance expertise and broaden the project’s impact. The partnerships must demonstrate mutual benefit, capacity strengthening, and a clear commitment to long-term collaboration. Grant Details and Funding Structure Each partnership can access up to £85,000 in total funding. The project partners must agree on a budget split between the UK and partner country institutions, detailing this division clearly in the application.
