Description

The historic Grossmünster in Zürich is inviting applications for the Grossmünster Fellowship 2027, a prestigious 15-week fully funded residency for promising artists, writers, and researchers from all disciplines. Organized by the Reformed Church of Zurich in cooperation with local institutions, the fellowship offers a unique opportunity to explore the legacy of the Swiss Reformation while engaging with contemporary Swiss society and culture. Application Deadline: 15 April 2026 About the Grossmünster Fellowship The Grossmünster is widely recognized as the birthplace of the Swiss Reformation and remains a symbolic landmark in Zurich’s cultural and intellectual life. The 2027 fellowship program provides selected fellows with the time, space, and resources to develop a project connected to the Swiss Reformation or its broader historical and cultural heritage. Applicants must propose a clearly defined project to be developed or advanced during their residency in Zurich. Fellowship Focus Areas Projects should: Engage with the Swiss Reformation or its legacy Reflect on contemporary Swiss society and culture, particularly in Zurich Critically and creatively explore the idea that “Reformation never stops” Use the Reformation as a point of reference, even if not strictly religion-focused Interdisciplinary and innovative approaches are strongly encouraged. Projects may examine reform processes in politics, art, culture, philosophy, or social movements beyond purely religious contexts. Expectations of Fellows During the 15-week residency, fellows are expected to: Actively participate in public discourse Present their work regularly to smaller and larger audiences Engage in official fellowship-related events Contribute meaningfully to Zurich’s intellectual and cultural landscape The fellowship is designed not only as a research or creative retreat, but as an interactive exchange between the fellow and the local community. What the Fellowship Covers The Grossmünster Fellowship is fully funded and includes: Housing in Zurich Basic living expenses Travel costs Access to a working space Library and university facilities This comprehensive support allows fellows to focus entirely on their proposed project without financial constraints. Eligibility Requirements To be considered, applicants must: Be emerging or established artists, writers, or researchers Submit a well-developed project proposal Demonstrate professional proficiency in English Have basic knowledge of German (preferred but not mandatory) The selection process includes a shortlist phase followed by a 30-minute online interview in June 2026. The final decision will be announced in August 2026. Required Application Documents Applicants must submit the following materials: Motivational letter (1–2 pages) Narrative CV (1 page) Detailed project outline (3–5 pages) Applications must be submitted via email to: christian.walti@reformiert-zuerich.ch Incomplete applications may not be considered, so candidates are encouraged to ensure all required documents are included before submission. The Grossmünster Fellowship 2027 offers a rare opportunity to live and work in one of Europe’s most historically significant cities while engaging with themes of reform, transformation, and societal change.
