The International Centre for Migration Policy Development is currently recruiting a Communications and Engagement Intern within its Policy Unit, based in Vienna, Austria. This six-month internship offers a valuable entry point into the world of migration policy, strategic communications, and international cooperation. About ICMPD The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) is an intergovernmental organization with 21 Member States and operations in over 90 countries worldwide. Its work focuses on strengthening migration governance through: Policy research and analysis Migration dialogues and partnerships Capacity building and advisory services With headquarters in Vienna and a global presence, ICMPD plays a key role in shaping evidence-based migration policies across regions including Africa, Europe, Central Asia, and the Mediterranean. Internship Overview This internship is based within the Policy Unit, a division responsible for policy analysis, engagement, and advisory work. The role is particularly suited for candidates interested in the intersection of communications and migration policy. Key Details: Position: Communications and Engagement Intern Location: Vienna, Austria Duration: 6 months Start Dates: 15 June 2026 or 1 September 2026 Application Deadline: 20 April 2026 The internship provides direct exposure to high-level policy discussions and international collaboration. Key Responsibilities The selected intern will support a wide range of communications and outreach activities, including: Assisting in the organization of the Vienna Migration Conference and other events such as workshops and webinars Supporting policy outreach by promoting publications and key outputs Drafting and preparing content for: Websites Social media platforms Email newsletters Managing and updating website content Monitoring social media performance and engagement metrics Creating visual materials such as infographics and digital content Tracking migration policy developments to inform communication strategies This hands-on role allows interns to develop practical skills in digital communications, policy engagement, and event coordination. Candidate Profile ICMPD is seeking motivated individuals with a strong interest in communications and migration policy. Educational Background: Current student or recent graduate in: Communications International Relations Migration Studies Public Policy or related fields Required Skills: Excellent written and spoken English Strong communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools Solid digital literacy Preferred Qualifications: Experience with: Social media management Content creation and website management Social media analytics Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) Knowledge of migration policy issues Candidates should also demonstrate: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities Ability to work independently and in multicultural teams Adaptability and intercultural awareness Compensation and Conditions ICMPD offers: Monthly stipend: €500 Accident insurance for the duration of the internship However, interns are responsible for: Travel expenses Health insurance Securing the right to live and work in Austria or the Schengen Area It is important to note that this internship does not guarantee future employment with ICMPD.
