The KAUST Photonics Summer Camp (PSC) is a prestigious, fully sponsored four-week research internship program designed for undergraduate and master’s students worldwide. This immersive program offers hands-on experience in cutting-edge photonics research, workshops, and technical training, giving participants the chance to explore advanced optical technologies and prepare for future careers in science and engineering. Program Details Dates: July 1 – 30, 2026 Location: KAUST Campus, Saudi Arabia Application Deadline: March 31, 2026 Overview of the Program The PSC is a unique opportunity to participate in state-of-the-art research projects in contemporary photonics, combined with workshops, technical training, and exposure to KAUST’s world-class research facilities. Participants gain practical lab experience, knowledge of nanofabrication and imaging tools, and insights into innovative optical science. Key program highlights include: Hands-on research projects in areas such as: Semiconductor lasers Photonic integrated circuits Quantum technologies Optical communications Neuromorphic computing Hyper-vision systems Workshops with fellow students, entrepreneurs, and researchers Certification in advanced laboratory tools and techniques Field trips and networking opportunities Opportunities for publishing research findings or contributing to patent filings The program equips students with practical skills, professional experience, and academic recognition to excel in photonics and related fields. Hosting Faculty Participants will work under the mentorship of distinguished KAUST faculty, including: Andrea Fratalocchi Boon Ooi Yating Wan Mohamed-Slim Alouini Xiaohang Li Wolfgang Heidrich Osman M. Bakr Nazek El-Atab Faculty provide guidance on research projects, technical skills, and professional development. Who Should Apply The PSC is open to highly motivated students who meet the following criteria: Recent graduates, senior undergraduates, or current master’s students in: Electrical and computer engineering Physics Related disciplines Strong academic record with GPA of 3.5/4.0 or higher Proficiency in English (both written and spoken) Demonstrated interest and motivation to work on research projects in photonics Eligibility and Application Requirements Applicants must: Meet the academic requirements listed above Submit a complete application package, including: Updated curriculum vitae (CV) Official academic transcripts (in English) Copy of passport Successfully pass interviews with KAUST faculty and administration Incomplete applications or failure to meet eligibility requirements will not be considered.
