Empowering South African Youth Through Market Theatre Foundation Creative Industry Training The Market Theatre Foundation (MTF), in partnership with the YES4Youth Programme, has opened applications for its 2026 Internship Programme, designed to equip unemployed South African youth with practical experience and essential professional skills in the creative arts sector. Ten internship placements are available across creative, technical, and administrative departments, offering a rare opportunity to gain hands-on training in one of South Africa’s most respected cultural institutions. The MTF YES4Youth Internship is part of a national initiative to address youth unemployment by providing workplace exposure and fostering career development in fields that combine creativity, innovation, and technical expertise. Programme Overview Closing Date: 11 November 2025Location: Johannesburg, South AfricaDuration: January – December 2026Stipend: R5,000 per month Successful applicants will be appointed on a 12-month fixed-term contract, beginning in January 2026 and ending in December 2026. Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of R5,000 for the duration of the programme. This is an entry-level opportunity, ideal for recent graduates eager to launch their careers. No previous work experience is required—just enthusiasm, a relevant qualification, and a willingness to learn. Key Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet the following requirements: Be South African citizens aged 18–34 years. Be unemployed and submit an affidavit confirming unemployment status. Have completed Matric and hold at least a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or a Degree from a recognised institution. Be registered on the YES Youth platform at www.yes4youth.co.za. Not be enrolled in full-time studies during 2026. Not have previously participated in the YES4Youth Programme. Be available for the full 12-month duration of the internship. Applicants with a background or interest in the creative arts will have an added advantage. Important Note: Background checks will be conducted on successful candidates, and relocation costs (if applicable) are the responsibility of the applicant. Available Internship Opportunities The Market Theatre Foundation is offering ten internship positions for 2026, each providing specialised experience within different departments. Sound Technician Intern (Ref: 2025/10/ST) Supports the technical production team with sound setup and operation for theatre performances and live events.Requirements: Diploma or Degree in Sound Technology, Engineering, or Performing Arts; experience with mixing consoles and cue programming; MS Office proficiency. 2. Lighting Intern (Ref: 2025/10/LIGI) Assists with lighting design, programming, and operation during productions.Requirements: Qualification in Lighting Technology or related field; familiarity with lighting desks, cue sheets, and light plots; MS Office proficiency. 3. Technical Assistant Intern (Ref: 2025/10/TA) Provides backstage and technical support for theatre productions, maintaining stage equipment and assisting crews.Requirements: Qualification in Performing Arts or Theatre Technology; understanding of technical coordination and stage operations. 4. Occupational Health & Safety Intern (Ref: 2025/10/OHS) Supports the OHS department in implementing health, safety, and quality assurance practices.Requirements: Diploma or Degree in OHS, Safety Management, Environmental Health, or SAMTRAC; proficiency in MS Office. 5. Human Resources Intern (Ref: 2025/10/HR) Assists with HR administration, employee relations, and engagement initiatives.Requirements: Qualification in HR Management or Industrial Psychology; knowledge of HR systems and labour legislation. 6. Information Technology Intern (Ref: 2025/10/IT) Provides IT support for hardware, software, and network systems.Requirements: Diploma or Degree in Information Technology; A+ and N+ certifications; strong troubleshooting skills; knowledge of Windows, macOS, and servers. 7. Corporate Administrator Intern (Ref: 2025/10/CADMIN) Supports daily operations and office administration within the corporate department.Requirements: Qualification in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Office Management; proficiency in MS Office and organisational skills. 8. Graphic Designer Intern (Ref: 2025/10/GD) Collaborates with the Brand & Communications team to design digital and print materials.Requirements: Qualification in Graphic Design, Media Studies, or Visual Arts; strong Adobe Creative Cloud skills; understanding of social media content creation. 9. Library & Administrator Intern (Ref: 2025/10/LA) Manages front-office reception and supports library operations.Requirements: Qualification in Library and Information Science, Office, or Business Administration; excellent customer service and communication skills. 10. Programmes & Administrator Intern (Ref: 2025/10/PA) Assists with arts administration, event planning, and programme coordination.Requirements: Qualification in Arts Management, Event Management, or Administration; ability to work flexible hours, including after-hours events.
