The One Health and Development Initiative (OHDI) has opened applications for its One Health Communications Internship Programme a six-month opportunity built to give emerging communications professionals hands-on experience in development communications, science communication, One Health risk communication, and public engagement. Passionate about digital media, science communication, or creative design? This six-month remote internship lets you build a real portfolio while working on global One Health programmes and it’s open to applicants worldwide. The opportunity is fully remote and open to international applicants, making it accessible no matter where you’re based. Quick Overview Organization: One Health and Development Initiative (OHDI) Programme: One Health Communications Internship Programme Duration: 6 months Location: Remote, open to international applicants Application Deadline: 31 July 2026 Note: OHDI may close applications early before the published deadline so early submission is strongly advised What Is OHDI, and Why Does This Internship Matter? OHDI is a nonprofit organization advancing the One Health approach through research, policy, innovation, capacity strengthening, and program implementation. Their work spans antimicrobial resistance, animal welfare, sustainable food systems, health security, and environmental conservation among other critical global health areas. This internship gives early-career communicators the chance to work directly alongside experienced professionals across OHDI’s diverse programmes and platforms, contributing to real communication projects rather than simulated exercises. Choose Your Track: Five Specialist Communication Paths Successful applicants are placed into one of five tracks, based on their interests, skills, and organizational needs: Social Media & Community Management: Support planning, scheduling, and management of social platforms, engage online communities, monitor trends, and contribute to audience growth strategies Content Development & Science Communication: Develop written content — social captions, articles, blogs, newsletters, interviews, and success stories — that translates complex technical information into engaging storytelling Graphic Design & Visual Communications: Design social graphics, infographics, reports, presentations, event materials, brand templates, and digital campaigns Multimedia & Digital Storytelling: Produce photography, videography, reels, podcasts, event coverage, and documentaries, while supporting video editing and storytelling initiatives Digital Communications & Website Management: Support website updates, email campaigns, newsletter production, SEO optimization, analytics reporting, and digital asset organization What Will You Actually Be Doing? No matter which track you land in, all interns will: Support communication activities across OHDI and its affiliated programmes Participate in planning and strategy meetings, collaborating with multidisciplinary programme teams Contribute innovative communication ideas Take part in monthly capacity-building sessions covering development communications, science communication, One Health risk communication, and public engagement Who Should Apply? OHDI is looking for students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals who are genuinely passionate about communications for development and social impact. Applicants should: Hold or be pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Health, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, Graphic Design, Multimedia, Marketing, International Development, or a related field Demonstrate a strong interest in digital communications and storytelling Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills Be creative, proactive, organized, and willing to learn Have experience and/or interest in social media management, graphic design, photography, videography, or content creation Applicants with experience using tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, social media management platforms, and AI productivity tools are especially encouraged to apply. What Will You Gain From This Internship? Selected interns receive far more than just experience — the programme is designed to genuinely invest in participants: Practical experience in development and science communications Exposure to international programmes and partnerships Networking and mentorship from experienced professionals Opportunities to build a professional communications portfolio A certificate of completion upon finishing the programme A monthly stipend to support assigned tasks and deliverables What You Need to Apply Interested applicants should prepare and submit: A CV (maximum two pages) A portfolio or relevant work samples, if available Links to social media pages How to Apply Applications must be completed through OHDI’s official online application form. Application Deadline: 31 July 2026 Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. Important: Applications May Close Early OHDI has stated it reserves the right to close the application process at any time before the published deadline, without prior notice. If you’re interested, don’t wait until the last day — early submission is strongly encouraged. Why This Internship Stands Out It’s fully remote and open internationally, removing geographic barriers that limit many similar opportunities It comes with a monthly stipend, rather than being unpaid Interns get exposure to real international programmes and partnerships, not just internal busywork The five specialist tracks let applicants align the internship with their actual skills and career direction A completion certificate and portfolio-building opportunities make it a strong stepping stone for a communications career in global health or development Final Thoughts For anyone early in their communications career who wants meaningful, real-world experience in science communication, digital storytelling, or global health messaging, OHDI’s One Health Communications Internship offers a rare combination: remote flexibility, international exposure, mentorship, and paid support — all built around work that genuinely matters. Application Deadline: 31 July 2026 Given OHDI’s early-closure disclaimer, the safest move is to apply as soon as you can rather than waiting for the deadline.
