Location: Lagos, NigeriaDuration: 1 yearOrganization: British Council Role Overview The Marketing and Communications Intern will support the British Council Nigeria in the creation, management, and dissemination of communication content across multiple digital and offline channels. Reporting to the Regional Senior Marketing Manager, the intern will contribute to social media campaigns, content generation, and internal communications, while assisting with event planning, data analysis, and audience engagement. This position is designed to provide practical experience, strengthen professional skills in communications and marketing, and offer insight into the operations of an internationally recognized organization. The internship is a structured, hands-on learning opportunity where the successful candidate will actively contribute to the British Council’s visibility, outreach, and engagement initiatives while developing core professional competencies in marketing, communications, and project support. Key Responsibilities Social Media and Digital Engagement: Monitor, upload, and manage content on the Council’s social media platforms, responding to basic enquiries and audience interactions. Support the development of creative content strategies that increase reach and engagement. Assist with digital marketing campaigns, ensuring optimization across multiple channels, including email, social media, and the Council website. Evaluate current digital marketing approaches and recommend improvements to enhance audience engagement and content performance. Content Creation and Communication Support: Assist in developing written, visual, and multimedia content for newsletters, publications, infographics, and other outreach materials. Participate in research and data collection to inform marketing and communication strategies, including designing surveys, polls, or questionnaires. Support analysis of emerging marketing trends and provide insights to improve the effectiveness of campaigns. Event Planning and Execution: Contribute to the planning and delivery of promotional events, workshops, and marketing initiatives across programme areas. Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth execution of events and campaigns aligned with organizational priorities. Learning and Professional Development: Gain exposure to the British Council’s mission, operations, and impact in Nigeria. Develop practical experience in planning and implementing marketing campaigns, content creation, and stakeholder engagement. Receive mentorship and structured guidance from senior staff to support professional growth and skill development. Build professional networks by interacting with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders across programs and regions. Candidate Profile Essential Qualifications: Recent graduate (within the last four years) with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Familiarity with social media platforms and basic digital marketing strategies. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn. Genuine interest in digital marketing, communications, and youth engagement. Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of current social media trends and platforms. Experience in creating web content, blogging, or video blogging. Familiarity with digital design tools, content management systems, or basic multimedia editing.
