International Summer School for Policing Scholars (ISSPS) at the University of Stirling, Scotland Dates: Monday 22 – Friday 26 June 2026Location: University of Stirling, ScotlandApplications Open: 11 February 2026Application Deadline: 6 March 2026 Overview The Scottish Institute for Policing Research (SIPR) is offering funding for PhD researchers based at SIPR member universities to participate in the International Summer School for Policing Scholars (ISSPS). The summer school will be hosted at the University of Stirling from 22–26 June 2026. Funding covers one week’s accommodation in the University’s halls of residence and partial subsistence for meals. Applicants must be certain they can attend, as a strict cancellation policy requires institutions to refund grants if participants cannot join. About the ISSPS The ISSPS is a collaborative initiative led by: Centre for Evidence-Based Crime Policy (CEBCP) at George Mason University Scottish Institute for Policing Research (SIPR) Griffith University, Australia Australian and New Zealand Society of Evidence-Based Policing (ANZSEBP) The summer school primarily targets PhD researchers, including: Those with confirmed doctoral funding Individuals with secured PhD program places Candidates pursuing professional doctorates with substantive policing research Curriculum The ISSPS program emphasizes field- and practice-oriented policing research. Topics include: Research design in policing (quantitative and qualitative approaches) Researching with, for, and by practitioners Theoretical frameworks in policing research Programme evaluation frameworks Research translation and knowledge transfer Participants are encouraged to engage actively with faculty and peers to enhance practical and academic knowledge. Accommodation and Value SIPR-funded participants will receive: Private en-suite room in University of Stirling halls of residence Access to shared communal spaces with other summer school participants Breakfast in the residence halls and lunch provided during the week Some pre-arranged evening activities and meals Additional costs to be covered by participants: Incidentals Meals not officially organized by the summer school Accommodation outside 22–26 June Travel to and from the summer school Parking fees Assessment and Selection Applications will be assessed based on: Suitability of research for the ISSPS program Engagement with the SIPR community Potential for summer school participation to enhance doctoral studies and career development Selected participants may be required to produce outputs from the summer school, such as: Blog posts for the SIPR website Contributions to an ISSPS output paper Articles for inclusion in SIPR’s annual report Posters for the Scottish International Policing Conference 2026 on the final day (26 June) Application Process Notification of Intent: Submit a brief email to SIPR at sipr@napier.ac.uk by 20 February 2026.
