The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) invites applications for the 2026 International Summer Student Programme (ISSP) Programme Dates: 6 July – 28 August 2026Application Deadline: 14 December 2025 The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) invites applications for the 2026 International Summer Student Programme (ISSP), a fully funded eight-week research experience in Berlin designed for outstanding undergraduate students from around the world. The programme provides an opportunity to engage directly in cutting-edge scientific projects while gaining practical research experience and exploring the collaborative environment of one of Europe’s leading research institutions. Each summer, HZB welcomes approximately 20 international students to join research groups working on current scientific challenges in areas such as photon science, photovoltaics, catalysis, electrochemical energy storage, quantum and functional materials, and accelerator technology. Participants are integrated into the daily work of research teams and contribute to active projects at the HZB campuses in Berlin-Wannsee and Berlin-Adlershof. Beyond laboratory work, ISSP 2026 offers a structured framework programme that enriches the scientific experience with educational and cultural activities. Participants will take part in guided visits to world-class facilities, including the BESSY II synchrotron, solar energy laboratories, and medical accelerator units. The programme also includes excursions to other leading research institutions in the Berlin area, workshops on science communication and entrepreneurship, and a final poster session where participants present their research findings to the HZB community. This combination of research, training, and networking provides an invaluable foundation for future careers in science and technology.
