About the Institute for Peace & Diplomacy The Institute for Peace & Diplomacy is a non-profit, non-partisan think tank operating in the United States and Canada. Its mission is to promote dialogue, diplomacy, military restraint, and pragmatic international relations in a rapidly evolving global system. The organisation focuses on advancing policy discussions that prioritise stability and cooperation in international affairs. Its work spans multiple regions, including the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East and North Africa, and broader global governance systems. Through research publications, expert discussions, and policy briefs, IPD contributes to debates on international security, diplomacy, and the future of global order. About the Research Assistant Internship Role The Research Assistant internship is designed to support IPD’s core programs through research, writing, and policy analysis. The position is fully remote and offers participants the opportunity to engage with real-world policy challenges in international affairs. Interns will contribute to projects related to global security, diplomacy, and international system dynamics, including thematic areas such as Indo-Pacific relations and the evolving structure of global power systems. The role provides early-career researchers with hands-on experience in think tank operations and policy development. Key Responsibilities The Research Assistant will support a range of activities across IPD’s programs and initiatives. Responsibilities include: Conducting background research on international affairs topics Supporting policy writing and analytical publications Assisting with research development for reports and briefs Contributing to events and expert discussions Supporting communications and internal programme activities Helping prepare content for publications and policy outputs The role is designed to provide broad exposure to research processes within a professional policy environment. Eligibility and Qualifications Applicants for the Research Assistant position are expected to demonstrate strong academic and analytical abilities. Preferred qualifications include: Background in international relations, political science, or related disciplines Strong research and writing skills Interest in diplomacy, global governance, and foreign policy analysis Ability to work independently in a remote environment Strong communication and organisational skills Candidates must be able to work 30 hours per week during the internship period. Internship Structure and Duration The internship is structured as a nine-week programme beginning on 1 June 2026. It includes the possibility of extension depending on organisational needs and performance outcomes. Participants will gain exposure to research methods, policy writing, and think tank operations while working closely with IPD’s research teams. Communications Specialist Internship Option In addition to the Research Assistant role, IPD is also offering a Communications Specialist internship. This role focuses on: Digital communications and marketing Content creation and public engagement Supporting outreach and dissemination of research outputs Both internships operate under similar conditions, including remote work, a nine-week duration, and participation in IPD’s policy and research ecosystem.
