NEF Announces Short-Term Research Opportunities NEF is opening applications for a set of short-term, project-specific research positions designed to support an intensive study on critical minerals and their role in India’s economic and strategic landscape. These roles are offered on a contractual, part-time basis and span a period of two to three months. The initiative aims to bring together early-career researchers and professionals capable of contributing rigorous analysis, informed insights, and high-quality writing to a study of national relevance. Positions Available NEF is seeking to engage a small cohort of researchers who can work collaboratively within a focused research cell dedicated to the project’s objectives. The organization is looking to fill two to three positions in the following categories: Research Associates Research Interns Each position will require the selected individuals to participate actively in data collection, analytical work, literature reviews, drafting of research notes, and periodic review discussions with the project team. Eligibility Criteria The opportunity is open to candidates who can bring strong academic training and sector-specific knowledge. Individuals from the following backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply: Doctoral scholars and research fellows engaged in relevant fields Professionals with experience in public policy, economics, geology, mineral studies, international trade, or strategic affairs Applicants must demonstrate: Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities Excellent writing skills suited for policy analysis Familiarity with research methodologies used in academic or policy contexts The capacity to work within defined timelines An understanding of geopolitical and economic dimensions of critical minerals (preferred but not mandatory) Nature of Engagement The structure of the engagement has been designed to ensure a concentrated research effort while maintaining flexibility for part-time contributors. Key details include: Duration: Two to three months Mode: On-site engagement at NEF Honorarium or Stipend: Provided in accordance with NEF norms Selected researchers will work closely with senior team members, participate in periodic briefings, and contribute to project outputs such as background notes, policy briefs, and data-driven analyses. Project Significance This research initiative is part of a broader effort to understand and strengthen India’s position in the global critical minerals landscape. As the world moves rapidly toward clean energy systems and advanced technologies, critical minerals have become central to economic competitiveness and national security. The study aims to examine supply chain vulnerabilities, emerging geopolitical dependencies, and avenues for strengthening domestic and international partnerships.
