About the Amujae Initiative The Amujae Initiative—the flagship program of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development (EJS Center)—is more than a leadership program; it is a transformative movement. Launched in March 2020, the Initiative’s mission is to inspire and equip Africa’s most talented women to rise unapologetically to the highest levels of public leadership and bring others along with them. Through mentorship, peer learning, and global exposure, the Amujae Initiative works to increase women’s meaningful representation in public leadership and transform the narrative about women leaders across the continent. Applications Now Open Each year, the EJS Center selects up to 15 extraordinary African women already demonstrating impact in politics, governance, or public service. The program offers transformative leadership development experiences designed to strengthen their leadership capacity, refine their public influence, and expand their networks. Selected participants—known as Amujae Leaders—become part of a powerful sisterhood of trailblazing women from across Africa, united by a shared purpose: to lead, to serve, and to pave the way for the next generation of women leaders. Application Deadline: December 12, 2025, by midnight GMT Meet the Amujae Trailblazers Since its inception, the Amujae Initiative has supported four cohorts of leaders, totaling 55 women from 24 African countries. These Amujae Leaders are reshaping the political, social, and economic landscapes of their nations. They include ministers, parliamentarians, activists, and innovators who are driving change at local, national, and international levels. What the Selection Committee Looks For Candidates should demonstrate: Vision: A compelling and strategic vision for change in their community or country. The Initiative is particularly interested in applicants from underrepresented regions including Central and Northern Africa, as well as Francophone and Lusophone countries.
