Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project is seeking a Palestine Researcher to support its data collection and analysis efforts on political violence and protest activity in the West Bank. This is a fully remote, entry-level consultancy opportunity within the organisation’s Global Data Collection (GDC) Middle East team. The organisation operates remotely, with a distributed network of researchers and partners working across multiple regions affected by conflict. Role Overview and Responsibilities The Palestine Researcher will contribute to the collection, coding, and verification of data related to political violence and protests. The role involves monitoring multiple information sources and translating qualitative reports into structured datasets. Key responsibilities include: Reviewing news reports, NGO publications, and international organisation updates Identifying and recording incidents of political violence and protests Coding data into structured formats (primarily Excel templates) Ensuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness of datasets Supporting quality control and data validation processes Collaborating with team members to maintain data reliability The work focuses on capturing a wide range of conflict events, from demonstrations to armed clashes, ensuring comprehensive and timely coverage. Nature of the Consultancy This is an independent contractor role requiring a minimum commitment of 25 hours per week. The position may involve flexible working hours, including mid-week and weekend submissions. Important aspects of the role include: Fully remote work environment Flexible scheduling based on deliverables Exposure to conflict-related and potentially distressing content Structured training and performance evaluation The initial consultancy period runs from 27 April to 30 June, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. Training and Performance Evaluation Selected candidates will undergo a comprehensive training programme provided by Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project. Training includes: Practical exercises in data collection and coding Evaluation of attention to detail and analytical accuracy Assessment of ability to meet quality standards Only candidates who meet the required performance level during training will continue as active researchers. Shortlisted applicants will also be required to complete a two-hour coding exercise as part of the selection process. Compensation The role offers a competitive hourly rate: 20 USD per hour Payment is based on hours worked and completion of assigned deliverables. Required Skills and Qualifications Applicants must demonstrate a strong combination of academic background, technical skills, and research capability.
