Asda is seeking a Sustainability Manager to join its Head Office team in Leeds. The role focuses on leading the company’s sustainable sourcing strategy across both food and non-food product categories. This position plays a pivotal role in managing forest-risk commodities, supporting the implementation of progressive sourcing standards, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. The Sustainability Manager will also contribute to broader initiatives addressing water management, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship in collaboration with Asda’s agricultural teams. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of supply chains, enabling the business to implement and maintain sustainable practices while embedding environmental awareness throughout the supplier network. This role requires a strategic thinker capable of drawing insights from diverse data sources and providing actionable recommendations to advance Asda’s ESG objectives. Key Responsibilities The Sustainability Manager will: Drive Asda’s sustainable sourcing strategy, engaging with suppliers, colleagues, and NGOs to track market developments, standards, and regulations while positioning Asda proactively on key issues. Develop and implement sourcing policies and projects aligned with Asda’s ESG commitments. Collaborate closely with suppliers, commercial, and technical teams to embed understanding and adherence to sustainability standards. Manage multi-stakeholder compliance projects, particularly those related to evolving regulations such as forest-risk commodities. Represent Asda externally in discussions with suppliers, retailers, government bodies, and NGOs. Conduct reporting and KPI tracking across suppliers to support external disclosure on key sourcing metrics. Provide specialist technical advice and guidance on environmental and sustainability issues. Candidate Profile Ideal candidates will have experience within retail or FMCG sectors, particularly in sustainability, technical, or commercial roles. They must demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to communicate complex issues clearly to stakeholders at all levels. The role requires a proactive, self-starting individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can multi-task effectively, and prioritizes strategically. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of sustainability issues, including environmental and social impacts, and have experience influencing internal and external stakeholders to advance organizational sustainability agendas.
