The program is designed to strengthen grassroots development efforts that align with Australia’s international development priorities. What is the Direct Aid Program? The Direct Aid Program is a small grants initiative that provides financial support to projects capable of generating immediate and measurable benefits for local communities. The program focuses on supporting: Community-driven development initiatives Grassroots projects with direct community impact Practical solutions addressing local development challenges Activities that deliver sustainable and tangible outcomes Projects aligned with development objectives in eligible countries Through DAP, Australia seeks to empower local organisations to lead development efforts and address community needs through innovative and impactful interventions. Eligible Countries and Organisations The Australian Embassy in Harare administers the program across five countries within its diplomatic jurisdiction: Zimbabwe Zambia Malawi Democratic Republic of the Congo Republic of the Congo Funding is available on a not-for-profit basis to: Community-based organisations Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) Civil society organisations Development-focused institutions Other organisations engaged in eligible development activities Applicants must demonstrate that their proposed projects will generate direct benefits for target communities and meet the requirements outlined in the official program guidelines. Application Window Now Open The Embassy has announced that applications for the 2026–2027 funding round are open from: Opening date: 22 June 2026 at 9:00 AM CAT Closing date: 13 July 2026 at 12:00 AM (midnight) CAT Applications submitted outside this period will not be accepted. Interested organisations must complete and submit their applications through the designated online grants platform during the official application window.
