The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is seeking a highly capable Program Manager to join the Australian Mission to ASEAN in Jakarta, Indonesia, on an ongoing, full-time basis. This locally engaged position offers an opportunity to contribute directly to Australia’s international development, foreign policy, and regional engagement objectives within Southeast Asia. With a monthly salary of IDR 23,903,324, this role is well suited to professionals with strong program management experience, sound judgement, and the ability to operate independently in a dynamic diplomatic environment. About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) DFAT plays a central role in advancing the interests of Australia and Australians globally. The department works to: Strengthen Australia’s national and regional security Promote economic prosperity through trade and investment Deliver a high-quality and effective international development program Support Australians overseas and facilitate international travel In delivering this mandate, DFAT provides policy advice to the Australian Government on foreign affairs, trade, and development, while also coordinating closely with other Australian government agencies to advance Australia’s global, regional, and bilateral priorities. Role Overview The Program Manager position is based within the Australian Mission to ASEAN and supports Australia’s engagement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The role contributes to program management and policy development within the human and political security portfolios of the Mission. The position requires a professional who can manage complex aid and development initiatives, engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, and deliver high-quality outputs under limited supervision. Key Responsibilities The Program Manager is responsible for supporting the effective delivery and oversight of Australia’s aid and development programs within the ASEAN context. Core responsibilities include: Assisting with the management of the Mission’s aid program portfolio Providing program management and policy development support across human and political security initiatives Supporting relationships with key stakeholders, including implementing partners and government counterparts Coordinating with Australian diplomatic posts across Southeast Asia Contributing to planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of development activities Managing competing priorities and making informed decisions on complex tasks with minimal guidance The role demands strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate sensitive policy and development contexts. Required Skills and Professional Profile The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise, analytical capability, and interpersonal effectiveness. The role is particularly suited to individuals with demonstrated experience in program or project management within development, government, or international relations settings. Key attributes include: Proven experience in program or project management Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Capacity to engage constructively with diverse stakeholders Ability to manage complex tasks under pressure and meet deadlines Experience working in international development, diplomacy, or regional policy environments is considered a strong advantage.
