The fellowship brings together young African professionals from diverse sectors who are actively engaged in environmental and conservation work and are committed to driving meaningful, on-the-ground impact. The programme targets individuals working across the private sector, non-governmental organisations, public institutions, and community-based entities, offering them the opportunity to strengthen their leadership, management, and project implementation capabilities within the conservation and environmental space. About the Fellowship The AWF–Wall Leadership & Management Fellowship is structured to equip emerging leaders with transformational leadership and management skills that are critical for achieving long-term conservation outcomes. The fellowship recognises that effective conservation requires not only technical expertise, but also strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage people, resources, and complex projects. Participants are selected based on their authentic leadership journeys, demonstrated commitment to conservation, and their current or potential contribution to environmental sustainability across Africa. Fellowship Objectives The fellowship aims to: Strengthen leadership and management capacity among young African conservation practitioners Support effective project implementation and impact-driven leadership Foster a pan-African network of professionals committed to conservation and environmental stewardship Encourage reflective leadership grounded in real-world conservation challenges Fellows are encouraged to share their personal leadership experiences and demonstrate how their work contributes to tangible conservation outcomes within their communities or organisations. Who the Fellowship Is For The programme seeks practitioners at different stages of their careers, including those who are employed, self-employed, founders, or volunteers, provided they are actively engaged in conservation-related work. Eligible applicants may be working in, but are not limited to, the following areas: Conservation research and science Environmental communication and advocacy Wildlife and natural resource management Community engagement and development Programme and project management Fundraising and resource mobilisation Finance, administration, and human resources Legal and policy-related work within conservation Applicants do not need to be trained conservation scientists. However, they must clearly demonstrate a strong interest and passion for building a career in conservation, regardless of their professional background. Eligibility Criteria Applicants are considered a strong fit for the fellowship if they meet the following requirements: Are nationals of any African country Are currently living and working within Africa Are between 20 and 35 years of age Hold a minimum of a diploma in any field Are actively involved in conservation or environmental work, either professionally or voluntarily Demonstrate a clear commitment to conservation impact and leadership development Language Requirements Applications must be submitted in English Francophone or Lusophone applicants must demonstrate basic English writing and speaking skills Only applications submitted in English will be reviewed.
