AWIEF Launches Pitch n Grow 2026 Competition for Women-Led Deep-Tech Ventures Across Africa

The African Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) has officially opened applications for the Pitch n Grow 2026 competition, its flagship pan-African entrepreneurship programme designed to identify, support, and amplify high-potential women-led ventures across the continent. Under the theme “Deep Roots. Digital Futures.”, the 2026 edition will focus on women entrepreneurs leveraging deep technology to solve Africa’s most pressing development challenges. The competition offers mentorship, business training, visibility opportunities, funding prospects, and access to a continent-wide entrepreneurial ecosystem. Applications are currently open to eligible women founders from all African countries. Driving Innovation Through Women-Led Entrepreneurship Pitch n Grow has become one of AWIEF’s leading initiatives for supporting female entrepreneurs at different stages of business development. The programme seeks to accelerate the growth of innovative ventures by providing founders with the tools, networks, and exposure needed to scale their impact. According to AWIEF, the competition is designed to help women entrepreneurs: Strengthen their business models Access mentorship and expert guidance Gain exposure to investors and ecosystem stakeholders Build visibility across African markets Position their ventures for sustainable growth The programme supports entrepreneurs from idea-stage concepts to growth-stage companies operating across multiple African markets. Theme for 2026: Deep Roots. Digital Futures. The 2026 theme highlights the role of deep technology in addressing local challenges while creating globally relevant solutions. AWIEF is encouraging women founders to develop innovations rooted in African realities and experiences, leveraging advanced technologies to solve problems affecting communities, industries, and economies across the continent. The theme emphasizes: Locally developed technology solutions Deep understanding of African markets and communities Long-term sustainable impact Innovation driven by local knowledge and expertise The initiative seeks ventures that demonstrate how advanced technology can be applied to uniquely African opportunities and challenges. Competition Tracks for Different Business Stages Pitch n Grow 2026 features three dedicated tracks designed to accommodate ventures at varying levels of maturity. Idea Track Designed for pre-venture founders who have developed a compelling concept and validated a problem worth solving. Requirements include: No minimum revenue requirement Prototype or proof-of-concept available Less than 18 months of operation Solo founder or small team of fewer than five members Startup Track Focused on early-stage businesses with active customers and market traction. Applicants must have: Generated revenue Registered business entity Operating history between six months and three years Dedicated founding team of more than two members Scale-Up Track Intended for growth-stage companies with proven market success. Eligibility includes: Revenue exceeding US$500,000 or institutional funding secured Operations in two or more African countries More than three years of operating history Team size exceeding five full-time employees Eligibility Requirements To qualify for the competition, applicants must meet the following criteria: Be a woman founder or co-founder Be at least 18 years old Be a citizen, resident, or registered business operator in an African country Operate a venture with a strong technology component Serve African markets or communities Commit to attending the AWIEF 2026 Conference finals if selected Mixed-gender founding teams are eligible; however, the official pitch presenter must be a woman co-founder. Ventures That Are Not Eligible AWIEF has outlined several disqualifying factors, including: Businesses without a technology-driven component Ventures operating entirely outside Africa without African market engagement Applications where the female lead is not a registered founder or legal owner of the business These criteria ensure that the programme remains focused on authentic women-led innovation across the continent. Priority Innovation Sectors The competition is particularly interested in ventures applying deep technology to solve development challenges in key sectors. Priority areas include: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Predictive analytics AI-powered solutions Localized digital tools AgriTech Smart farming technologies Drone-based crop monitoring IoT-enabled agricultural solutions HealthTech Telemedicine platforms AI diagnostics Medical technology innovations Clean Energy Smart energy systems Solar technology platforms Battery and grid innovations Water Technology Digital irrigation systems Water management technologies Climate resilience solutions Additional sectors include: Biotech FinTech Cybersecurity EdTech Smart Cities Circular Economy Frontier Technologies Programme Timeline The Pitch n Grow 2026 programme will unfold in several stages: June 22, 2026 Applications open July 1–7, 2026 Orientation webinars July 15–25, 2026 Application screening process Selection narrowed from approximately 200 applicants to 70 ventures August 1–28, 2026 Six-session training bootcamp September 1–15, 2026 First-round judging and submission review By September 20, 2026 Announcement of 12 finalists October 2026 Mentorship and pitch preparation November 10–11, 2026 Live finals during the AWIEF 2026 Conference Benefits for Participants and Finalists Pitch n Grow offers far more than a traditional pitch competition.
