Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) UK is recruiting a Research Intern to support its vital operational research and contribute to improving medical humanitarian practice globally. Based within the Manson Unit in London, this 12-month fixed-term role offers hands-on experience in research processes, project management and global health issues. Role Overview The Research Intern will join the Research and Innovation team, supporting a wide range of research activities, including MSF’s family of Scientific Days and the Manson Unit’s work. This position is designed for someone eager to deepen their understanding of medical research, global health and the processes that underpin high-quality humanitarian studies. The intern will gain experience in research design, communication, innovation and knowledge-sharing. They will also be encouraged to bring forward creative ideas to strengthen MSF’s research quality and impact. Key Details Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract Location: London, hybrid model with 80% office attendance Salary: £27,007.50 per annum (London Living Wage) Purpose of the Role The role is designed to help streamline, coordinate and strengthen MSF’s research processes. Working closely with the Research and Innovation team, the intern will support the development of research outputs, event coordination and data management. Through these responsibilities, the intern will help ensure that MSF’s research contributes to improving operational practice and reaching wider humanitarian audiences. Skills, Knowledge and Experience Applicants should demonstrate: Academic and Research Foundations A scientific degree or relevant experience is required, along with a clear understanding of scientific research processes. Familiarity with global health issues and an interest in humanitarian work are essential. Communication and Organisational Strengths Strong written communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to interpret briefs accurately are central to the role. The intern must be able to work independently and as part of a team, engaging effectively with colleagues across departments. Technical Skills Experience with database management and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365—including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Yammer—is required. Understanding the research study lifecycle, ethical requirements and event support are desirable assets.
