Position Overview Reporting to the Senior Director of Research, the Research Manager plays a central role in managing the operational and administrative aspects of the Center’s research agenda. This position is responsible for coordinating research projects, supporting open calls for proposals, supervising student researchers, and liaising with internal and external partners to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality research outputs. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational, project management, and communication skills, with demonstrated experience in research coordination and team leadership. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of academia, policy, and urban innovation—advancing research that directly informs city leadership and policy practice. Key Responsibilities Open Calls and Research Coordination Lead the development and implementation of open calls for research proposals, including managing submissions, tracking reviews, and communicating outcomes. Prepare written materials such as guidelines, FAQs, and briefing documents. Develop and maintain databases of researchers and partner organizations. Serve as the primary contact for applicants, reviewers, and principal investigators, ensuring clear communication and efficient process management. Collaborate with administrative and finance teams to oversee award budgets, track expenditures, and ensure fiscal accountability. Support strategic engagement with academic institutions, city research partners, and professional networks. Plan and coordinate convenings, webinars, and knowledge-sharing events for researchers and city leaders. Research Management and Operations Recruit, train, and supervise student research assistants and interns. Coordinate project workflows, timelines, and deliverables across multiple research initiatives. Liaise with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other compliance offices to ensure adherence to research standards. Organize research meetings, track documentation, and support research-related programming, including conferences and faculty engagement. Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and learning-oriented culture within the research team. Contribute to the Center’s broader mission by supporting innovation, excellence, and dissemination of research findings. Qualifications Basic Requirements Master’s degree in public policy, social sciences, management, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. At least six years of professional experience in research coordination, program management, or a related role. Preferred Skills and Attributes Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with a proven record of managing complex projects to completion. Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with senior faculty, researchers, and external partners. Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff or research assistants. Familiarity with academic research protocols, including IRB processes and data management. Proficiency in tools such as Airtable, SharePoint, and Salesforce is an advantage. Proven experience managing client or stakeholder relationships in academic or research settings. Appointment Details This position is a term appointment through June 30, 2026, with a strong possibility of renewal based on performance and funding. The role is based at Harvard’s Cambridge campus, with flexible hybrid work arrangements available upon approval. Candidates must reside in one of Harvard’s registered payroll states. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Pre-employment screening will include identity and education verification.
