BRAC International is seeking an Officer, Research and Learning to strengthen its data-driven decision-making and support organisational learning across its programmes in Kenya. The role is positioned within the Learning and Effectiveness team, where the officer will serve as the primary analyst responsible for transforming data into actionable insights that inform programme quality and impact. Key Role Purpose The Officer, Research and Learning will provide analytical, research and knowledge-management support to ensure that programme teams are equipped with accurate information, clear evidence, and timely learning products. The individual will work closely with monitoring teams, learning partners and internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment between field-level data, organisational objectives and the broader mission of BRAC International. The position is based in Nairobi and is open exclusively to Kenyan nationals. Core Responsibilities The officer will review and clean incoming data sets from monitoring teams and research partners, documenting all steps undertaken for data integrity. They will conduct both quantitative and qualitative analyses, applying a high degree of accuracy, methodological rigour and attention to detail. The role includes the development of data visualisations such as dashboards, charts and graphs to support programme monitoring and strategic reviews. The officer will prepare internal reports highlighting key trends, results and challenges and will ensure that insights from analyses clearly support programme decision-making. The position further involves conducting desk research and producing literature reviews on themes relevant to BRAC International’s portfolio. These may include youth empowerment, climate adaptation, sustainable livelihoods, gender transformation, early childhood development and other thematic areas. The officer will also support the ongoing development of the organisation’s knowledge-management function by contributing to documentation processes, organising learning products and maintaining relevant repositories. Safeguarding Responsibilities The officer will uphold BRAC International’s safeguarding policies and contribute to creating a safe environment for programme participants and staff. Responsibilities include participating in mandatory safeguarding training, reporting incidents through the appropriate channels, and ensuring that all programme decisions prioritise dignity, safety and respect. Staff members are expected to demonstrate neutrality, sensitivity and non-judgement when supporting survivors or participating in investigations. Required Academic Background Applicants are required to hold a bachelor’s degree in International Development, Public Policy, Data Science or a related discipline. Degrees from reputable institutions will be considered, and evidence of strong academic performance is desirable. Professional Experience A minimum of one year of experience in research, monitoring and evaluation or data analysis is required. Applicants should demonstrate competence in analysing qualitative data using tools such as Dedoose or NVivo, and must show experience with quantitative analysis using Microsoft Excel and at least one script-based statistical package such as STATA or SPSS. Experience in building dashboards and data visualisations is essential. Skills and Competencies The position requires expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative methodologies used in programme evaluation. Additional requirements include proficiency with data-collection and visualisation tools such as Kobo Toolbox, Qualtrics, Power BI or Tableau. Candidates should be able to work independently and collaboratively, communicate effectively in writing and speech, and manage multiple tasks under pressure. The ability to develop succinct and well-structured reports is essential. A flexible mindset and willingness to travel to project sites, approximately 20 percent of the time, are required.
