Business for Nature Seeks Policy Senior Lead to Drive Global Nature-Positive Policy Change Business for Nature, a global coalition uniting businesses, business associations, and conservation organizations, has announced an opening for a Policy Senior Lead. The role is designed for an experienced policy professional who can help shape international environmental governance and accelerate the transition toward a nature-positive global economy. Hosted by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Business for Nature operates as a fully remote, international team. The organization brings together more than 100 partners and is supported by a wider network of over 1,500 companies and financial institutions. Its mission is to mobilize the business community to advocate for policies that protect and restore nature while supporting sustainable economic development. A Strategic Leadership Role in Global Environmental Policy The Policy Senior Lead position is a full-time role, with flexibility for part-time arrangements. The ideal start date is in the third quarter of 2026. The successful candidate may be based anywhere in the world, provided they have the legal right to work in their location. Occasional international travel is expected. The salary range for the position is $45,000–$75,000 gross annually, depending on experience, location, and working hours. The compensation package also includes benefits such as health coverage, retirement or pension contributions, and paid holidays, in line with the organization’s hosting arrangement. This role reports directly to the Policy Director and plays a central part in shaping the organization’s global advocacy strategy. Key Responsibilities 1. Designing and Delivering Policy Strategy The Policy Senior Lead is responsible for translating Business for Nature’s priorities into actionable policy engagement strategies. This includes designing advocacy campaigns, coordinating engagement with governments and international institutions, and ensuring that policy initiatives are effectively executed. A core part of the role involves building and maintaining relationships with policymakers, negotiators, and stakeholders involved in major global forums such as UN conventions and multilateral agreements. The role also requires representing the organization at high-level meetings, conferences, and international events. 2. Developing Evidence-Based Policy Content The role includes leading the creation of high-quality policy materials, including recommendations, briefings, and advocacy documents. These outputs must be grounded in evidence and aligned with global policy processes such as the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and major political forums such as the G7 and G20. The Policy Senior Lead will also work closely with communications teams to translate technical policy information into clear, compelling messages that resonate with non-technical audiences, including government decision-makers and business leaders. 3. Providing Political Intelligence and Strategic Insight Another key responsibility is monitoring global political developments related to nature, biodiversity, and sustainability. The role requires analyzing policy trends, identifying risks, and highlighting opportunities for strategic engagement. This includes providing forward-looking insights that help shape advocacy priorities and support decision-making across the organization. The Policy Senior Lead will also work closely with regional leads to assess national and international policy landscapes. 4. Building Partnerships and Representing the Organization The position involves collaboration across a wide network of stakeholders, including businesses, coalitions, and international organizations. The Policy Senior Lead is expected to strengthen partnerships that enhance the organization’s advocacy impact. In addition, the role includes representing Business for Nature in external engagements such as panels, roundtables, and consultations. Where necessary, the Policy Senior Lead may also deputize for the Policy Director. 5. Team Leadership and Coordination The Policy Senior Lead will manage one to two team members, providing mentorship, direction, and performance oversight. Responsibilities include setting priorities, allocating tasks, and ensuring high-quality delivery of policy outputs. The role also contributes to broader team management, including planning, budgeting, and maintaining a collaborative and inclusive working culture across the organization. Candidate Profile and Requirements Business for Nature is seeking a candidate with strong academic and professional credentials in fields such as political science, environmental management, economics, or sustainable development. A master’s degree or equivalent qualification is required. The ideal candidate will have: Extensive experience in designing and delivering policy or advocacy strategies that drive measurable change Strong background in engaging with governments or international institutions Deep understanding of global policy processes, including UN systems and multilateral negotiations Excellent project management and organizational skills Strong written and verbal communication abilities in English Ability to work independently in a remote, fast-paced environment A strong commitment to nature-positive economic transformation Experience working with businesses, coalitions, or sustainability-related initiatives is considered an advantage, as is prior team management experience.
