Code for Africa (CfA) invites applications for five (5) part-time Mythbusters Fellowships aimed at strengthening information integrity across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. The three-month fellowship is designed for community influencers committed to promoting factual, evidence-based information in their local contexts. The initiative is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway and seeks to detect, disrupt, and deplatform malign actors who manipulate public discourse. Mythbusters Fellowships : Target Countries The fellowship focuses on influencers based in: Democratic Republic of the Congo Madagascar South Africa Tanzania Fellowship Purpose and Focus Areas The Mythbusters Fellowship aims to protect inclusive democracy and human rights in the digital age. It leverages digital tools and investigative journalism to counter disinformation and strengthen public resilience. Key thematic priorities include: Climate-related narratives and misinformation Foreign information manipulation and interference The 2026 South African municipal elections Xenophobia and its digital amplification By addressing these issues, the programme seeks to empower local communities with verified information and promote responsible digital engagement. Mythbusters Fellowships: Role and Responsibilities of Fellows Successful applicants will collaborate closely with CfA’s forensic investigation unit, iLAB, and the fact-checking initiative PesaCheck. Fellows will: Translate investigative findings into accessible, engaging content Produce short-form graphics, audio clips, or videos Share content primarily in local languages Use their platforms to counter false or manipulative narratives Lead community discussions on information integrity The programme prioritises visual storytellers and influencers with strong audience engagement, particularly nano- and micro-influencers who serve as trusted local voices. Mythbusters Fellowships : Training, Mentorship, and Professional Development Fellows will benefit from structured training and expert mentorship delivered by Academy Africa and CfA’s investigative and engagement teams. Mythbusters Fellowship programme includes: 1. Advanced Training Fact-checking methodologies Ethical reporting standards Media and social media monitoring 2. Mentorship Guidance from international investigative analysts Coaching from social media engagement specialists Ongoing feedback on content production 3. Networking OpportunitiesFellows will join the Congress for Peace (COPP) influencers network and may be invited to speak at network events or present at major continental conferences. Mythbusters Fellowship Package The three-month programme offers: Comprehensive training and mentorship Access to a continental influencer network A competitive monthly stipend to support participation in programme activities This package ensures that fellows can focus on producing impactful content while building long-term professional skills. Mythbusters Fellowship Eligibility Criteria The Mythbusters Fellowship is designed for independent, non-partisan digital influencers committed to strengthening information resilience. Applicants must meet the following requirements: Be an active social media influencer with a substantial and engaged audience, including participation in live discussions Demonstrate non-partisanship, with no affiliations to government agencies, political parties, paramilitary organisations, or state-affiliated media Commit to publishing fellowship content on their personal or professional social media platforms Be fluent in English or French Have access to a reliable laptop or desktop computer with stable internet connectivity Be available for virtual training and mentorship sessions Commit to sharing newly acquired skills with their organisation, followers, and the wider journalism or research community Priority will be given to trusted local messengers operating as nano- or micro-influencers with strong community credibility. Application Timeline Application Deadline: 27 February 2026 Fellowship Duration: Three months Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews. The organisation develops digital democracy solutions that provide citizens with actionable information and strengthen public accountability. CfA builds and supports platforms such as open data portals, investigative reporting networks, and fact-checking initiatives. African Digital Democracy Observatory (ADDO) The African Digital Democracy Observatory is a continent-wide research coalition focused on analysing disinformation and influence operations that threaten African democracies and watchdog institutions. The coalition consists of 15 Africa-focused research and investigative organisations. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway The Ministry oversees Norway’s foreign policy and promotes human rights and democratic principles worldwide. Through this partnership, the Ministry supports efforts to counter information manipulation and strengthen democratic resilience in Africa. The Mythbusters Fellowship presents a unique opportunity for digital influencers to champion information integrity, combat harmful narratives, and contribute meaningfully to democratic resilience in the SADC region.
