The African Youth Initiative on Climate Change (AYICC) is inviting applications for its next cohort of continental leadership, serving from March 2026 to December 2027. This call targets committed African youth aged 18–35 who are eager to take on strategic leadership roles, advancing AYICC’s mission and impact across the continent. Successful candidates will undertake a two-year voluntary term, providing their time, expertise, and leadership to strengthen youth engagement in climate governance and action at national, regional, and global levels. This is a unique opportunity to influence policy, shape programmatic priorities, and drive youth-led climate solutions that are inclusive, innovative, and sustainable. Role Overview AYICC continental leaders will play a central role in guiding the organization’s work across multiple areas, including: Advocacy: Represent African youth in climate negotiations, forums, and decision-making spaces. Program Development: Support the design, planning, and implementation of youth-led climate initiatives. Partnerships: Foster collaboration with governments, civil society, private sector actors, and international stakeholders. Communications: Amplify the voice of African youth through campaigns, storytelling, and digital engagement. Grassroots Engagement: Mobilize and mentor local youth networks, ensuring inclusivity and representation in climate action. Leaders will work collectively to ensure that African youth have a strong, coordinated voice in shaping climate policies and programs that affect their communities and the continent at large. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet the following requirements: Aged 18–35 years Demonstrated commitment to climate action, youth empowerment, or sustainable development Proven leadership skills, including experience in advocacy, program management, or community mobilization Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and cultures Willingness to commit to a two-year voluntary term and actively contribute to continental initiatives Strong communication skills, including proficiency in English or French, with additional languages considered an asset Benefits of Serving as an AYICC Continental Leader While this is a voluntary position, AYICC continental leaders gain significant opportunities for personal and professional growth: Representation: Serve as a voice for African youth in key climate governance spaces Capacity Building: Access training, mentorship, and skill development in leadership, advocacy, and climate policy Networking: Build strategic partnerships with governments, NGOs, private sector actors, and youth networks across Africa Impact: Contribute directly to shaping youth-led climate solutions and influencing climate policies on the continent Leaders will also have the opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of AYICC and support the sustainability and scalability of youth-led climate initiatives. Application Process Interested candidates should submit a comprehensive application demonstrating their experience, leadership skills, and commitment to youth-led climate action. Selection will be based on merit, experience, and alignment with AYICC’s vision of inclusive and participatory climate leadership. The continental leadership term runs from March 2026 to December 2027, and successful applicants are expected to actively participate in all leadership activities, meetings, and initiatives throughout this period.
