Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, is a world-leading independent policy institute based in London. Its mission is to promote a sustainably secure, prosperous, and just world. The Queen Elizabeth II Academy for Leadership and the Next Generation is currently inviting applications for four prestigious Academy Fellowships. These ten-month, in-person fellowships commence in October 2026 and include participation in a Leadership Masterclass Programme designed to cultivate global policy leadership skills. Fellowship Opportunities and Eligibility Each fellowship has specific eligibility criteria: New Generation Europe Academy Fellowship: Russian citizens or dual citizens. Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship: Citizens or dual citizens of any African country. Richard and Susan Hayden Academy Fellowship: Open to citizens or dual citizens of any country. Stavros Niarchos Foundation Academy Fellowship: Greek citizens or dual citizens. Fellows join a diverse cohort of early- to mid-career professionals from academia, NGOs, business, government, civil society, and media. Participants are expected to have a strong research focus and share Chatham House’s mission and values. Fellowship Scope The Academy Fellowships provide emerging leaders with the opportunity to: Conduct independent research on global regions or policy themes. Contribute to Chatham House research, events, and publications. Collaborate with a global network of experts, policymakers, and practitioners. Participate in the Leadership Masterclass Programme, including seminars, workshops, media training, and career mentoring. Requirements Applicants must: Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience. Meet the eligibility criteria for their chosen fellowship. Demonstrate relevant professional or research experience. Show leadership experience or potential. Exhibit commitment to Chatham House’s values and mission. Demonstrate proficiency in English. Research Focus Areas Fellows are encouraged to align research proposals with Chatham House’s strategic priorities. Key areas include: Africa Programme and Digital Society: Political leadership in digital transformation. Governance and accountability of digital infrastructure. Geopolitics of connectivity, data, and cybersecurity. African states’ strategies for digital trade, AI governance, and non-alignment. Environment and Society Centre: Achieving a just and orderly energy transition. Role of non-state actors in sustainable futures. Resource dependencies and sustainable use strategies. Europe Programme: European strategic sovereignty and critical sector dependencies. Competitiveness and integration of industrial and defense policies. Engagement with rising regional powers. Global Economy and Finance Programme: Future of the US dollar in the international monetary system. Economic impact of AI and governance mechanisms. Global Health Programme: Advancing African health sovereignty. Health diplomacy, global health security, and private sector engagement. Integrating health and defense strategies. International Law and Security Programmes: International rule of law, prohibition of force, and democracy protection. Strategic adaptation to emerging technologies, hybrid threats, and conflict prevention. Regional Programmes: Latin America: Security, stability, democratic renewal, and economic growth. Middle East and North Africa: Governance, AI, climate policy, and geopolitical balance. Russia and Eurasia: Political economy, foreign policy, and Central Asia transformation. UK and US Programmes: Defense, economic security, technology, and strategic international relations. Benefits Fellows receive: £2,565 monthly stipend covering London living costs. Relocation support, including travel, accommodation, visa fees, and UK Immigration Health Surcharge. Research funding for fieldwork, outreach, and events. Access to full Chatham House membership and networking opportunities. Participation in the Leadership Masterclass Programme. 5-year Chatham House membership upon fellowship completion. Contract Details Full-time, ten-month fixed-term contract. Hybrid working arrangement: minimum two days per week in London office, with flexibility for Leadership Masterclass attendance.
