globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

June 1, 2026

Description

The Compare Fellowship 2026–2027 offers an outstanding opportunity for early career academics in the field of education to expand their research impact and engage with the global academic community. Organised by the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE), this fellowship is closely linked to the journal Compare, a leading publication in international and comparative education that produces eight issues annually. About the Fellowship Established in 2017, the Compare Fellowship was created to address persistent inequalities in global academic publishing. Its primary aim is to support scholars from underrepresented regions—particularly the Global South—by providing resources, mentorship, and platforms to share their work internationally. The 2026–2027 fellowship will run from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027, offering comprehensive financial and academic support to one selected fellow. What the Fellowship Offers The programme provides full funding to enable the fellow to participate in key academic activities in the UK. This includes: Attendance and presentation at the UKFIET Conference (details to be confirmed) Participation in the Compare Writers’ Workshop, a full-day training designed for early career researchers A 1–2 week academic residency in the UK, allowing the fellow to: Conduct library-based research Attend seminars and academic events Collaborate with scholars and mentors Develop ideas for publication All major costs are covered, including travel, accommodation, conference registration, and subsistence. Responsibilities of the Fellow Beyond the UK-based activities, the fellowship also emphasises ongoing engagement and contribution within the fellow’s home country. Selected candidates will be expected to: Participate in structured e-mentoring sessions Develop and submit an academic article to Compare Support academic writing development within their institution or country Contribute to the journal’s peer review process This dual focus ensures both individual career development and broader institutional impact. Eligibility Criteria To be considered for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements: Be currently based at a university in a low-income country, as defined by the World Bank Have completed a doctoral degree within the last six years Be actively engaged in teaching or research in education The fellowship is specifically designed to support early career researchers who demonstrate strong potential for academic contribution and leadership. Application Process Applicants are required to submit their materials via email. The application must include: 1. Curriculum Vitae (maximum 3 pages)This should outline academic qualifications, professional experience, and publications. 2. Supporting Statement (maximum 1200 words)The statement should address three key areas: Research Profile: A summary of research interests, previous publications, and future plans Indicative Conference Presentation: A brief outline of a potential presentation topic, including: Research question or focus Theoretical or conceptual framework Methodological approach Expected contribution to the field Fellowship Impact: Reflection on how the fellowship will benefit both the applicant and their institution or country While applicants may optionally identify a potential UK host institution or mentor, this is not a requirement, as support will be provided during the fellowship. Key Dates and Contact Information Application Deadline: Monday, 1 June 2026 For further enquiries, applicants can contact the fellowship coordinator via email. Why Apply? The Compare Fellowship stands out as a unique initiative aimed at amplifying voices from underrepresented regions in global education research. By combining financial support, mentorship, and international exposure, the programme enables fellows to strengthen their academic profiles and contribute meaningfully to debates in education policy and practice. For early career researchers seeking to expand their reach and collaborate across borders, this fellowship represents a significant stepping stone in building a globally recognised academic career.
