The IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre has officially opened applications for the IGAD Regional Youth Coalition on Climate and Climate-Resilient Agri-food Systems. The initiative aims to strengthen youth participation in climate action and sustainable agriculture across the IGAD region by supporting young leaders, innovators, and youth-led organisations working on climate resilience and agri-food transformation. The application deadline is 22 May 2026. The coalition is supported by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa and seeks to build a stronger regional platform for youth-led climate solutions, collaboration, advocacy, and innovation. About the Coalition Young people across the IGAD region continue to play a vital role in advancing climate action, promoting sustainable agriculture, and supporting climate-resilient food systems. Through entrepreneurship, advocacy, innovation, and community engagement, youth are increasingly contributing to solutions that address climate-related challenges affecting agriculture and livelihoods. Despite this growing momentum, many youth-led initiatives still face major barriers, including: Limited access to climate services and information Inadequate funding opportunities Lack of mentorship and technical guidance Restricted access to business development support Limited institutional recognition and engagement opportunities To address these challenges, ICPAC established the IGAD Regional Youth Coalition to create a collaborative platform where young climate actors can connect, learn, and scale their impact. Purpose of the Initiative The coalition is designed to: Strengthen youth participation in climate governance and advocacy Promote climate-resilient agriculture and food systems Support youth-led innovation and entrepreneurship Enhance regional collaboration among young climate leaders Improve access to mentorship, knowledge, and professional networks Amplify youth voices in climate policy and decision-making spaces The initiative also contributes to broader regional climate resilience and sustainable development goals across IGAD member states. Benefits for Selected Members Youth and youth-led organisations selected for the coalition will gain access to a range of opportunities aimed at strengthening leadership, innovation, and collaboration. The call is open to: Young people engaged in climate action initiatives Youth-led organisations working in climate-related fields Individuals and groups advancing climate-resilient agriculture and agri-food systems Youth involved in innovation, sustainability, environmental advocacy, and climate resilience projects While the coalition prioritises agriculture and agri-food systems, it remains inclusive of youth working in other climate-sensitive sectors.
