The African Centre for Development Impact (ACDI) invites applications for its Impact Evaluation Training and Matchmaking Workshop for African researchers and policymakers. The programme will take place in Accra, Ghana, from 23 to 26 March 2026. This intensive, fully funded workshop is designed to strengthen the capacity of African evaluators, researchers, and policymakers to generate, interpret, and apply rigorous evidence in support of effective public policy and development programming. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between research and policy by fostering collaboration grounded in real policy priorities. Application deadline: Friday, 23 January 2026 Programme Purpose The Impact Evaluation Training and Matchmaking Workshop targets highly motivated researchers and policymakers who aim to influence decision-making through credible, demand-driven impact evaluation and collaborative research. The programme focuses on: Strengthening technical skills in impact evaluation Enhancing the use of evidence in policymaking Building sustainable research–policy partnerships Supporting locally driven, policy-relevant evaluation studies By combining structured training with direct matchmaking, the workshop ensures that evidence generation responds to real-world policy needs. Programme Overview The workshop will be delivered in English and French and adopts a practical, hands-on approach. It is structured to equip participants with the tools needed to design and implement impact evaluation studies focused on priority government interventions. Programme structure: Three days of intensive training on impact evaluation methods One day of structured matchmaking between researchers and policymakers During the matchmaking session: Policymakers will present priority policy interventions and evidence gaps Researchers and policymakers will form joint teams Teams will co-design evaluation approaches to address real-life policy questions Course Content The programme combines lectures, panel discussions, case studies, and group-based learning. Core topics include: Foundations of impact evaluation Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) Quasi-experimental designs Cost-effectiveness analysis Research transparency and reproducibility Linking evidence to policy and programme decisions The curriculum is designed to strengthen both methodological rigor and practical policy relevance. Post-Programme Support ACDI will continue to support participants beyond the workshop through a structured follow-up process. Post-programme support includes: A competitive call for joint research teams to submit full evaluation proposals Technical guidance from ACDI during proposal development and study design Independent review of submitted proposals Consideration of selected teams for funding support Assistance with dissemination of findings, including: Presentations on major platforms Policy engagement Manuscript development for academic publication This extended support ensures that workshop outcomes translate into funded research and policy impact. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet the following requirements: General eligibility: Be based at an academic, research, or policy institution in Africa Hold a Master’s or PhD degree from a recognised academic institution Demonstrate proficiency in English or French Technical background: Advanced training in statistics, economics, or related disciplines Background in quantitative methods and/or social sciences Policymakers: Must be formally nominated by their institutions The programme seeks participants with a strong commitment to evidence-informed policymaking and collaborative research. Funding and Logistics ACDI will cover the full cost of participation for selected applicants. Covered costs include: Tuition and training materials Accommodation and meals International travel for participants based outside Ghana Local travel and accommodation for participants based outside Accra Participants are required to: Arrive one day before the programme begins Attend the workshop for the full duration Detailed travel and accommodation instructions will be shared with successful applicants.
