Call for Applications: The Farm 2027 Residency (Fully Funded) Australia
globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

June 1, 2026

Description

The Asia-Europe Foundation through its platform culture360 highlights an international opportunity for visual artists to participate in the Farm 2027 Residency in Western Australia. Applications are open to both national and international practitioners, with the deadline set for 1 June 2026. This eight-week residency will take place between February and November 2027 at Margaret River, a rural area situated on Wadandi Country in the south-west of Australia. The programme is designed to support artists in developing work that responds meaningfully to environmental, cultural, and agricultural contexts. Residency Overview The Farm residency programme offers a focused and immersive environment where artists can expand their creative practice while engaging deeply with the surrounding landscape. The selected artist is expected to demonstrate a strong and established artistic approach, with the capacity to create work that not only advances their own career but also contributes to greater awareness and appreciation of the local environment. The initiative encourages the production of ambitious, site-responsive work. Artists are invited to explore themes such as ecology, sustainability, land use, and cultural heritage. Through this process, the residency fosters a dialogue between contemporary art practices and the natural and social dynamics of the region. Due to the remote location and limited transport infrastructure, holding a valid driver’s licence is strongly recommended for participants. Key Benefits and Support The residency provides comprehensive support to ensure artists can fully dedicate themselves to research, experimentation, and production. The following benefits are included: A grant of 15,000 AUD to cover living expenses and project-related costs Fully equipped accommodation and studio facilities located on-site at The Farm Coverage of travel expenses to and from Margaret River Professional documentation of the residency process and final outputs Access to mentoring, research assistance, and introductions to local arts networks and organisations Opportunity to present the developed project to a panel for potential additional funding and support Organisation of a community engagement event to showcase the artist’s work to local audiences This structured support system ensures that artists are not only resourced financially but are also integrated into a broader creative and professional ecosystem. Artistic and Community Engagement Focus A defining feature of the Farm residency is its emphasis on meaningful engagement with both place and community. Artists are encouraged to develop work that reflects a thoughtful understanding of the land and its cultural significance, particularly in relation to Wadandi Country. The residency culminates in a public-facing event where the artist shares their work with the local community. This interaction promotes dialogue, knowledge exchange, and cultural connection, reinforcing the role of art as a tool for engagement and awareness. Eligibility and Application Details The opportunity is open to visual artists from across the globe who are interested in exploring interdisciplinary and environmentally responsive practices. Applicants should demonstrate: A strong and consistent artistic practice Interest in environmental, ecological, or cultural themes Ability to work independently in a rural setting Commitment to community engagement and collaborative exchange Applications must be submitted before the official deadline of 1 June 2026. Detailed application guidelines and submission instructions are available on The Farm Margaret River’s official website. About Culture360 culture360, an initiative of the Asia-Europe Foundation, serves as a key digital platform connecting artists, cultural practitioners, and organisations across Asia and Europe. Established in 2008, it provides up-to-date information on arts, heritage, and creative industries, supporting international collaboration and exchange among member countries of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). Conclusion The Farm 2027 Residency represents a significant opportunity for visual artists seeking to engage with environmental themes in a deeply immersive and supportive setting. By combining financial support, professional development, and community interaction, the programme enables artists to create impactful work while expanding their global networks and artistic reach.
