The taz Panter Foundation, affiliated with the independent German newspaper taz, invites applications for its 2026 journalism training and networking programme titled “Global Powers, Local Realities – Africa’s Future Amid Global Power Plays and the Fight for Self-Rule.” This initiative is designed to bring together journalists from across Africa to explore the intersection of global geopolitics and local realities, while strengthening professional skills, collaboration, and cross-border storytelling. Programme Overview The programme offers a unique hybrid learning experience combining virtual engagement with in-person collaboration in Europe. It aims to equip journalists with the tools and perspectives needed to critically report on global power dynamics and their implications for African countries. Key features include: A five-month online phase starting in April 2026 Interactive seminars conducted via Zoom A 12-day in-person workshop in Berlin and Brussels in September 2026 Collaboration with international media professionals and experts A focus on storytelling, geopolitics, and independent journalism Participants will engage in discussions, training sessions, and collaborative projects that examine how global actors influence Africa’s political, economic, and social landscapes. Programme Outputs During the course of the programme, participants will work collectively to produce high-quality journalistic content. These outputs include: A bilingual print magazine (German and English) A four-part podcast series addressing key thematic issues These projects provide participants with practical experience in cross-cultural collaboration, multimedia storytelling, and international publishing standards. Financial Support and Benefits The programme offers comprehensive support to ensure accessibility and participation. Eligibility Criteria The programme is open to journalists from 16 African countries. Eligible countries include: Botswana Cameroon Ethiopia The Gambia Lesotho Liberia Madagascar Malawi Mauritania Mozambique Nigeria Sudan Tanzania Uganda Zambia Zimbabwe Applicants must meet the following requirements: Be an active journalist working in print, television, radio, or online media Demonstrate strong interest in global affairs and African development Possess fluency in English, as all sessions are conducted in English Hold a valid passport (for travel planning purposes) The programme strongly encourages applications from women journalists, promoting gender inclusivity and diversity in media representation.
