Description

The Youth Climate Justice Fund (YCJF) provides direct financial support to emerging, youth-led climate justice and socio-environmental movements around the world. Through a participatory and youth-centered decision-making process, YCJF supports collectives that are advancing fair, inclusive, and community-rooted climate action. The 2026 application round is now open, inviting eligible youth-led groups working at local and national levels to apply for flexible grants that strengthen climate and socio-environmental justice efforts. Funding Overview YCJF offers two grant categories based on the scale of work: Local groups: Grants of up to USD 20,000 National groups: Grants of up to USD 40,000 Funding is designed to be accessible, responsive, and aligned with the priorities of youth-led movements, particularly those operating in under-resourced or marginalized contexts. Who Can Apply Youth-led groups, networks, and collectives are encouraged to apply if they meet the following criteria: The group is led by young people aged 35 years or below, with the majority of leadership or decision-making power held by individuals in this age group The group is based in one of the following regions: East Asia and Pacific Middle East and North Africa Sub-Saharan Africa Latin America and the Caribbean South Asia Europe and Central Asia North America Additional eligibility considerations include: Applicants from high-income countries must belong to underrepresented or marginalized communities Groups focused solely on international advocacy without community-based work are not eligible Groups must be non-partisan, non-violent, and operating legally Groups should demonstrate a commitment to inclusive organizing, collective action, and intersectional movement building YCJF particularly supports groups that are: Cultivating diverse and inclusive leadership rooted in equitable climate action Raising ambition and accountability on climate and socio-environmental justice Strengthening community power and holding policymakers accountable Application Languages To improve accessibility, applications are accepted in the following languages: Arabic English French Hindi Portuguese Spanish Swahili Detailed guidance, including Frequently Asked Questions and full application questions, is available in all supported languages. The Grantmaking Process YCJF follows a transparent, participatory, and youth-led grantmaking process consisting of seven key stages: Call for Applications Opens The call remains open for four weeks Youth-led climate and environmental justice groups worldwide may apply Initial Screening Regional Committees, supported by YCJF staff, assess basic eligibility and alignment with YCJF values Regional Committee Review Proposals are reviewed based on regional priorities Selected groups may be invited for follow-up conversations Joint Decision-Making Regional Committees share shortlisted proposals with the Grants Committee Final decisions are made collectively to ensure fairness and alignment Due Diligence Selected groups receive support to complete administrative and compliance requirements Grant Awards YCJF works with partners to ensure timely disbursement of funds Joining the YCJF Community Funded groups are invited to onboarding sessions and peer learning spaces Groups collaborate on capacity strengthening resources Accessing the 2026 Application Package Applicants are encouraged to download the 2026 application package, which includes: A detailed application guide Frequently Asked Questions The full list of application questions Packages are available in multiple languages to support inclusive participation. Ongoing Learning and Support YCJF is committed to evolving its processes to promote shared ownership, transparency, and meaningful participation. Beyond funding, supported groups become part of a global community focused on peer learning, movement building, and long-term climate justice impact.
