The 9th RHNK Pan-African AYSRHR Scientific Conference is a continental platform designed to foster meaningful dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among diverse stakeholders working on adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health and rights (AYSRHR) across Africa. The conference provides a structured space for researchers, policymakers, practitioners, youth leaders, and development partners to share evidence, reflect on progress, and strengthen collective action in advancing health and rights outcomes for young people. Within this context, the organisers are issuing a call for experienced and engaging Masters of Ceremony (MCs) to support the facilitation of the conference proceedings. Role of the MCs The selected MCs will play a central role in shaping the tone, flow, and inclusivity of the conference experience. They will serve as the public-facing facilitators of the event, ensuring smooth transitions between sessions and maintaining audience engagement throughout the programme. Key responsibilities include: Guiding the overall flow of the conference agenda Introducing speakers, panels, and sessions in a clear and engaging manner Managing transitions between programme segments Maintaining audience energy, attention, and participation Supporting timekeeping in coordination with event organisers Ensuring an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming atmosphere for all participants Responding appropriately to dynamic programme changes where necessary The MC role is both functional and experiential, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to adapt in real time. Language Requirements Given the pan-African and bilingual nature of the conference, MCs are expected to be fully proficient in both English and French. Required competencies include: Fluency in spoken English for formal facilitation Fluency in spoken French for bilingual audience engagement Ability to switch smoothly between both languages during live facilitation Strong pronunciation, clarity, and public speaking confidence in both languages Bilingual facilitation is essential to ensuring inclusivity and accessibility across diverse participants from Francophone and Anglophone regions. Desired Skills and Attributes The ideal MC candidates will demonstrate a combination of professional presence, communication excellence, and audience engagement capability. Key attributes include: Strong public speaking and presentation skills Ability to engage large and diverse audiences effectively Confidence in moderating live events and managing programme flow High emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity Ability to remain composed under pressure in live settings Experience in facilitating conferences, panels, or formal events Strong interpersonal skills and professional stage presence Additional strengths that will be considered an advantage: Experience in youth-focused or health-related conferences Familiarity with AYSRHR or public health themes Prior experience in bilingual or multilingual event facilitation Ability to incorporate storytelling and audience interaction techniques Conference Context and Thematic Focus The RHNK Pan-African AYSRHR Scientific Conference focuses on adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health and rights, with an emphasis on evidence-based programming, policy innovation, and youth participation. The MCs will be expected to demonstrate sensitivity and awareness of the following thematic areas: Adolescent health and wellbeing Sexual and reproductive health rights Gender equality and inclusion Youth leadership and participation Public health policy and research Social and behavioural change communication Understanding of these themes will support more meaningful and contextually appropriate facilitation. Expectations for Performance MCs will be expected to uphold high professional standards throughout the duration of the conference. This includes: Maintaining a consistent and engaging tone across sessions Ensuring clarity in communication for both in-person and virtual participants Supporting a respectful and inclusive environment for all attendees Coordinating effectively with organisers, speakers, and technical teams Demonstrating flexibility in response to programme adjustments or unforeseen changes The role requires a balance of structure and adaptability to ensure a seamless participant experience. Selection Criteria Applicants will be assessed based on: Demonstrated experience in MC or public speaking roles Bilingual proficiency in English and French Ability to manage large-scale or multi-stakeholder events Understanding of youth, health, or development-related issues Communication style, clarity, and audience engagement skills Professionalism and reliability in event settings Shortlisted candidates may be invited to provide sample recordings or participate in a brief audition process. Purpose of the MC Role The MCs are not only facilitators but also key contributors to the overall success of the conference. Their role ensures that: The programme remains cohesive and accessible Participants remain engaged throughout the event The conference maintains a professional yet inclusive atmosphere Diverse voices and perspectives are effectively highlighted By guiding the flow of discussions and energising participants, the MCs help shape the overall impact and experience of the conference.
