About the Role The Business Development Coordinator (BDC) in Kenya drives institutional funding and business development at the country level. Embedded within the Country Team and reporting to the Country Director, with a dotted-line to the Director of Institutional Funding, the BDC ensures that the country office is donor-ready, strategically positioned, and actively engaged in securing institutional resources aligned with CBM Global’s mission. Key focus areas include: Pipeline Development: Identify, assess, and develop funding opportunities from institutional donors. Donor Engagement: Establish strong relationships with donors, consortia, INGOs, UN agencies, local NGOs, and Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs). Proposal Coordination: Lead development of proposals, ensuring donor compliance, technical quality, and alignment with CBM Global’s strategic priorities. Capacity Building: Support internal teams in understanding donor processes, funding requirements, and strategic positioning. Systems & Knowledge Management: Maintain accurate donor and proposal data, strengthen internal processes, and share learning across the federation. The role does not have direct reports but involves close collaboration with a 12-member Country Team and a 6-person Institutional Funding team. Responsibilities 1. Country-Level Business Development Leadership Drive institutional business development in line with the Country and CBM Global strategies. Lead quarterly business development reviews and annual planning processes. Serve as focal point for donor engagement and consortium positioning. 2. Donor Intelligence & Engagement Map, analyse, and monitor institutional donors and funding opportunities. Represent CBM Global in donor coordination platforms and meetings. Prepare donor-facing materials such as briefing notes, pitch documents, and capability statements. 3. Proposal & Consortium Development Coordinate proposal development with programme managers, finance, technical teams, and Member Teams. Facilitate consortium identification and partnerships with relevant organisations. Ensure proposals are competitive, donor-compliant, and contextually relevant. 4. Internal Coordination & Capacity Strengthening Support programme teams in designing fundable interventions. Document lessons learned and implement corrective actions. Organise internal briefings and learning sessions on institutional funding. 5. Systems & Knowledge Management Maintain accurate records in Global Online systems. Apply digital and AI-enabled tools to improve proposal and donor intelligence quality. Contribute to federation-wide learning, tools, and strategy development. Candidate Profile Experience & Knowledge: Minimum 7 years in institutional fundraising, business development, or programme development in international development or humanitarian contexts. Proven success in submitting proposals to institutional donors. Understanding of donor environments, funding mechanisms, and consortium approaches. Experience working with OPDs or disability inclusion programs is preferred. Familiarity with international donors (EU, FCDO, DFAT, UN agencies) and in-country partners is advantageous. Skills & Competencies: Excellent coordination, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Strong analytical, research, and donor intelligence abilities. High-quality written communication and proposal development skills. Confidence in engaging with external stakeholders and representing the organisation. Ability to manage multiple priorities in complex environments. Cultural sensitivity and collaborative mindset. Qualifications: Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience. Fluency in English; additional relevant languages are an asset.
