Role Overview The Senior Advisor, Youth Livelihoods, provides global technical leadership and strategic direction to strengthen ChildFund’s livelihoods programming. This full-time, open-ended remote role is open to candidates residing and authorised to work in the United States, with preference for those in the Washington, DC metro area. The Advisor reports to the Vice President of Program Resources & Institutional Learning and works across technical, MERL, program design, and business development teams to ensure that livelihoods initiatives are impactful, evidence-driven, and aligned with ChildFund’s Results Framework. ChildFund’s livelihoods work focuses on expanding economic opportunities for youth and families through skills development, entrepreneurship, employability pathways, green jobs, financial capability, and digital inclusion. Programs operate in both development and humanitarian contexts and frequently intersect with sustainability, protection, and education. Key Functions The Advisor leads technical design, quality assurance, donor engagement, partnership cultivation, and evidence generation for the global livelihoods portfolio. The role requires strong analytical skills, strategic communication, and experience navigating complex donor environments. Required Experience and Education Experience requirements: Minimum 8 years as a regional or global livelihoods specialist in international development or humanitarian sectors. At least 3 years of international field experience managing livelihoods programming. Demonstrated success designing large-scale or multi-country grant-funded interventions. Proven ability to secure funding from donors such as: USAID EU UNICEF Foundations Multilaterals Strong technical writing and proposal development experience. Ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, private sector partners, and government stakeholders. Education requirements: Bachelor’s degree in international development, economics, business, education, or a related discipline (required). Master’s degree or higher (preferred). Primary Responsibilities Technical Leadership The Senior Advisor strengthens program quality and evidence-based practice across all livelihoods interventions by: Providing specialised technical guidance to country teams. Ensuring programs integrate global best practices and ChildFund’s Results Framework. Supporting the design of interventions focused on: Workforce development Green jobs Entrepreneurship Youth employability Economic empowerment Developing tools, learning products, technical briefs, and capacity-building resources. Supporting staff capacity strengthening through coaching and training. Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning The Advisor collaborates with MERL and program teams to: Contribute to the development of strong proposals with clear indicators and results frameworks. Guide research agendas, evidence generation, and impact assessment. Strengthen data-driven learning to enhance program outcomes and thought leadership. Ensure program designs demonstrate measurable, credible pathways to impact. Partnership Development To enhance scale and sustainability, the Advisor: Cultivates strategic partnerships with employers, private sector actors, government entities, training institutions, and peer organisations. Represents ChildFund in global and regional networks, events, and technical forums. Identifies collaboration opportunities that expand youth economic opportunities. Develops sector-specific messaging to promote ChildFund’s leadership in livelihoods programming. Resource Expansion The Advisor works closely with Business Development and Grants Acquisition teams to: Track donor trends and identify new funding opportunities. Lead and contribute to high-quality technical proposals, concept notes, and donor responses. Strengthen internal capacities for donor engagement. Ensure proposal designs align with organisational and donor-specific requirements. Safeguarding Responsibilities The Advisor must: Stay alert to any potential child safeguarding risks. Model safe, ethical behaviour consistent with ChildFund’s Child Safeguarding Policy. Ensure safeguarding principles are fully integrated into program design, implementation, and partnership management. Complete mandatory safeguarding training and oversee adherence to standards. Travel of up to 20% is expected.
