Role Overview The Senior Specialist, Regional Business Development – Child Protection, provides technical and strategic leadership across ChildFund’s protection strategy in the Americas. The position is responsible for strengthening ChildFund’s visibility, thought leadership, and donor engagement, while ensuring technical excellence in proposal development and program design. The role is remote and open to candidates currently residing and legally able to work in Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador, Bolivia, or Brazil. The Senior Specialist works closely with global, regional, and country office teams, reporting directly to the Regional Director. Required Experience and Education Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in international affairs, social work, gender studies, public health, or a related field. A minimum of six to eight years of experience in business development and child protection within the Americas is essential. Applicants must demonstrate success in securing institutional funding from major donors such as USAID, the U.S. Government, and Global Affairs Canada. Additional requirements include proven experience in advocacy, grant development, inter-agency coordination, and regional network engagement. Certification in Child Protection and Safeguarding is mandatory. Business Development Responsibilities The Senior Specialist leads institutional and private donor engagement related to child protection priorities. Responsibilities include identifying new funding opportunities, guiding country offices in donor intelligence, and developing high-quality proposals and concept notes. The role collaborates with fundraising teams to co-design strategic donor engagement plans and strengthens technical capacity within country offices. The Specialist also monitors donor trends and aligns ChildFund responses to emerging priorities in child protection and advocacy. Technical Leadership for Child Protection Programming The Specialist ensures that program design adheres to global standards, donor requirements, and evidence-based practices. This includes providing technical guidance on logical frameworks, results measurement strategies, and safeguarding integration. The position is responsible for coaching national specialists, supporting localisation of ChildFund’s protection tools, and ensuring that all programs incorporate gender equity, inclusion, and community-based protection mechanisms. Oversight extends to technical components of grants across regional and country offices. Strategic Visibility and Partnership Engagement The role strengthens ChildFund’s visibility through participation in regional child protection forums, advocacy coalitions, and technical working groups. The Specialist represents the organisation in inter-agency platforms, builds relationships with peer agencies, and identifies opportunities for collaborative programming and joint funding. They also support the development of communication products, regional briefings, and learning materials to enhance the organisation’s influence and thought leadership in child protection. Safeguarding and Compliance The Specialist promotes adherence to ChildFund’s Child Safeguarding Policy across program development, implementation, and monitoring. This includes supporting partners and country offices in risk assessment, mitigation planning, and continuous capacity building. The role ensures safeguarding considerations are embedded in all project cycles and organisational practices. Required Competencies Candidates must demonstrate strong competencies in teamwork, communication, decision-making, results orientation, resilience, and digital literacy. Additional required competencies include fluency in Spanish, working proficiency in English, and an understanding of child protection systems and safeguarding frameworks. Applicants must show ability to coach staff, build partnerships, influence stakeholders, and work across diverse time zones and cultural contexts. An innovative approach and strategic mindset are essential. Other Criteria The position requires flexibility for international travel up to 30 percent across the Americas region. Fluency in Portuguese is considered an asset.
