Christian Aid is recruiting a Humanitarian Programme Officer (HPO) to strengthen and expand its humanitarian portfolio. This role is preferably based in Dublin, though other locations within the Republic of Ireland or the UK may be considered. Role Overview The Humanitarian Programme Officer plays a central role within Christian Aid Ireland’s humanitarian team. The position focuses on managing and growing a portfolio of institutional donor-funded programmes across multiple humanitarian and resilience sectors. The HPO leads the full grant management cycle, ensuring compliance with donor and organisational standards while delivering impactful programming. Key responsibilities include: Designing programmes and developing proposals Managing implementation, monitoring, and reporting Ensuring donor compliance and grant close-out Recording programme data accurately in systems such as iPIMS Supporting financial and operational oversight The role spans humanitarian response and long-term resilience initiatives, including: Cash programming Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) Food security and shelter Peacebuilding and conflict prevention Gender-based violence prevention and response Climate change adaptation and resilience building The postholder collaborates closely with colleagues across Ireland, the UK, and global offices, as well as regional and local implementing partners. Overseas travel to fragile and crisis-affected contexts is required, alongside the provision of surge capacity during early emergency responses. Candidate Profile Essential Requirements Applicants must demonstrate: A degree-level qualification in a relevant field Minimum five years’ experience in international development, ideally within humanitarian contexts Overseas professional experience Proven management of institutional donor funding (particularly Irish Aid and ECHO) Strong proposal writing and donor reporting expertise Knowledge of humanitarian standards (SPHERE, Red Cross Code of Conduct, Core Humanitarian Standards) Excellent written and spoken English Strong organisational, administrative, and meeting management skills Ability to manage competing priorities under pressure Cross-cultural collaboration and relationship-building skills Advanced computer literacy Desirable Qualifications Additional strengths include: Experience in disaster-affected countries Knowledge of humanitarian policy and advocacy Security management experience Technical expertise in food security, shelter, WaSH, or cash programming Experience in peacebuilding, GBV prevention and response, resilience, or climate adaptation Capacity-building experience with staff and partners French or Spanish language skills Organisational Commitment to Inclusion Christian Aid actively encourages applications from underrepresented groups, particularly: Racialised minorities LGBTQ+ individuals People with disabilities Returning parents or carers Individuals from low socioeconomic backgrounds Women and older professionals The organisation values diversity at all levels and recognises its importance in fostering innovative, effective teams.
