Christian Aid Ireland is seeking a Policy and Advocacy Officer to strengthen its work advancing economic justice, climate justice, human rights, and global equality. This role offers an opportunity to shape public policy, influence decision-makers, and contribute to transformative change both in Ireland and internationally. Organisational Context Founded by the Protestant churches of Ireland and Britain, Christian Aid Ireland collaborates with local organisations across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Its mission is rooted in identifying and addressing both the symptoms and root causes of injustice. The organisation prioritises: Economic justice and fair global systems Climate justice and environmental sustainability Peacebuilding and conflict prevention Effective humanitarian response Defence of international law and human rights Advocacy is central to its approach, targeting structural inequalities through policy change at national, European, and international levels. Role Purpose The Policy and Advocacy Officer will deepen the impact and effectiveness of Christian Aid Ireland’s policy engagement. Working within a focused two-person Policy & Advocacy team and reporting to the Head of Policy & Advocacy, the postholder will: Contribute to research and policy development Engage political representatives, policymakers, media, and the public Advance advocacy priorities related to economic and climate justice Support country-specific work, including Colombia and Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory The role requires close collaboration with: International programme teams Global Christian Aid policy colleagues Networks and coalitions The Media & Communications team The position is Dublin-based with flexible hybrid working arrangements. Key Responsibilities Conduct research and produce policy reports, briefings, and analysis Develop advocacy strategies and policy recommendations Engage with the Houses of the Oireachtas, EU institutions, and other political bodies Communicate complex policy issues clearly to diverse audiences Represent Christian Aid in public forums and media engagements Coordinate advocacy initiatives across programme countries Strengthen partnerships within coalitions and networks Essential Requirements Candidates must demonstrate: A relevant third-level qualification in political science, international development, human rights, climate policy, law, or related discipline (or equivalent experience) Proven experience in political advocacy and policy change Strong understanding of the Irish political system and EU policymaking Knowledge of international development debates, particularly economic and climate justice Excellent research and analytical skills Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Confidence in public speaking and media engagement Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines Sensitivity and discretion in handling information Commitment to Christian Aid’s mission and values Desirable Experience Additional strengths may include: Expertise in business and human rights, corporate accountability, tax justice, trade, or debt Experience within government institutions or multilateral bodies Engagement with national or international media Experience in public or digital campaigning Coalition-building and partnership development Language skills in Irish, Spanish, or French Employment Details Contract Type: Permanent Hours: 35 per week Location: Dublin, Ireland (hybrid model available) Closing Date: 1 March 2026 Interview Date: 9 March 2026 Applicants must have full eligibility to work in the Republic of Ireland, as Christian Aid Ireland does not provide visa sponsorship.
