Role Overview The Climate Adaptation & Resilience Lead is a senior technical and strategic role, reporting to the Global Head of Programme Policy & Practice. The position serves as the single point of accountability for climate change, adaptation, and resilience leadership across Christian Aid. The role is responsible for shaping and delivering a coherent, organisation-wide thematic strategy on climate adaptation and resilience, ensuring alignment with Christian Aid’s mission, values, and strategic priorities. The post-holder provides leadership across programmes, policy, advocacy, and partnerships to maximise impact, learning, and influence at global, regional, and national levels. Strategic Leadership and Accountability The Climate Adaptation & Resilience Lead is accountable for: Co-developing and delivering a global thematic strategy on climate adaptation and resilience Defining clear measures of success, impact, and learning aligned with organisational goals Reporting progress against the strategy at regular intervals Ensuring climate programming reflects best practice, innovation, and evidence Key Responsibilities Strategy Development and Delivery The role leads the organisation’s climate thematic priority by: Co-creating a comprehensive climate adaptation and resilience strategy Ensuring the strategy is embedded across programmes, policy, advocacy, and learning Aligning climate work with Christian Aid’s organisational values and global priorities Driving adaptive programming approaches informed by evidence and learning Technical Leadership and Programme Support As the organisational technical expert, the post-holder will: Provide specialist leadership on climate adaptation, resilience, and related programming Support staff across all five Multi-Country Clusters to design and deliver high-quality programmes Strengthen fundraising, programme design, and delivery of climate-focused signature programmes Ensure programmes integrate power analysis, social exclusion, and equity considerations People Management and Capacity Strengthening The role includes line management and capacity building responsibilities, including: Managing and supporting the Senior Climate Resilience Advisor Providing technical advice, mentoring, and training to staff and partners Promoting a culture of learning, reflection, and continuous improvement Learning, Research, and Evidence The Climate Adaptation & Resilience Lead will: Identify and promote best practice from partner organisations Commission or lead research, learning reviews, and evaluations Collaborate with Strategy & Learning and Impact & Evidence colleagues Ensure robust evidence is generated to measure impact and inform programme adaptation Policy, Advocacy, and External Engagement The role strengthens Christian Aid’s influence by: Working closely with policy and advocacy teams, including the Global Policy & Advocacy Lead for Climate Ensuring programme learning informs policy positions and advocacy messaging Engaging with global and regional climate debates, including UNFCCC processes and National Adaptation Plans Building and maintaining strong external networks and partnerships Sector Leadership and Profile Building The post-holder is responsible for: Representing Christian Aid in global and regional climate forums Enhancing the organisation’s profile as a leader in climate adaptation and resilience Supporting innovation and alignment with sector best practice Developing advisory materials and guidance for climate programming Required Skills and Experience Essential Qualifications and Experience The successful candidate will demonstrate: A postgraduate qualification (or equivalent) in Climate Science, Environmental Studies, Agriculture, International Development, or a related field Extensive experience designing and managing climate adaptation and resilience programmes across multiple regions Strong understanding of climate science, research, and current programming innovations In-depth knowledge of global and regional climate policy debates, including UNFCCC and National Adaptation Plans Proven experience in strategic planning, programme management, and adaptive M&E Strong staff management, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Inclusion, Safeguarding, and Values Christian Aid is committed to: Diversity, equity, and inclusion across all levels of the organisation Encouraging applications from under-represented groups, particularly at senior level Upholding safeguarding standards, including participation in the Inter-Agency Misconduct Disclosure Scheme Ensuring all staff demonstrate alignment with Christian Aid’s faith-based identity and values Employment is subject to appropriate background checks, including safeguarding, police/DBS checks, and right-to-work verification in the country of appointment.
