CIFOR-ICRAF is seeking an Advocacy and Campaigns Coordinator to bridge research and action, turning evidence into influence. This is an internationally recruited position based in Nairobi, Kenya, offering a highly visible and hands-on role for an experienced professional in advocacy, campaigns, and strategic communications. The Coordinator will lead the development of narratives, campaigns, and partnerships that shape policy, financing, and investment for sustainable drylands, ensuring that CIFOR-ICRAF’s knowledge translates into tangible impact. About the Role The Advocacy and Campaigns Coordinator will sit within the Communications, Outreach & Engagement team, working closely with project managers and thematic experts. The role requires translating project evidence into clear, compelling messages for decision-makers, investors, private sector actors, humanitarian and development agencies, and philanthropic organizations. It combines strategic oversight with practical campaign management, content creation, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring advocacy is both evidence-based and impactful. Key Duties and Responsibilities 1. Program Management Develop and oversee multi-regional advocacy strategies to drive impact. Manage advocacy staff and budgets, ensuring efficiency and accountability. Innovate and refine advocacy models and frameworks adopted across CIFOR-ICRAF. Expand stakeholder engagement, including senior leadership, board members, and high-level external partners. Assign accountability for organizational reputation and manage strategic risks in advocacy. Deliver measurable results on strategic objectives, funding, and partnerships. 2. Influential Messaging & Knowledge Products Lead the creation of high-impact advocacy messages and briefs derived from project outputs. Collaborate with researchers and thematic experts to translate evidence into concise, persuasive communications. Ensure alignment between scientific evidence and advocacy priorities. 3. Narrative Development & Storytelling Identify narrative hooks and frames that resonate with policymakers, investors, and philanthropic audiences. Oversee production of presentations, speeches, statements, and public announcements. Design interactive digital content including story maps, explainers, infographics, and data visualizations to make research accessible. Ensure consistent message rollout across channels and partner networks. Align outputs with CIFOR-ICRAF’s communications and organizational strategy. 4. Campaigns & Targeted Engagement Develop and implement advocacy roadmaps aligned with key policy moments such as COPs, Global Gateway, donor summits, and humanitarian forums. Identify and engage unconventional allies across sectors to co-design advocacy agendas. Plan, design, and deliver policy dialogues, roundtables, and campaign events. Strengthen advocacy coalitions to generate tangible outputs and foster partner ownership. Monitor and report on campaign activities and results. 5. Tracking & Adaptive Learning Define indicators to monitor advocacy outcomes and uptake. Collaborate with M&E teams to assess impact and produce influence stories. Track media mentions, social engagement, policy references, and partner amplification. Facilitate learning sessions to evaluate campaign effectiveness and share best practices. Develop strategies to embed CIFOR-ICRAF influence into long-term policy processes beyond single campaigns. Required Qualifications Advanced degree in international development, communications, environmental policy, or a related field. Minimum 7 years of international experience in advocacy, campaigns, or strategic communications. Skills and Competencies Proven success in designing and delivering campaigns and building partnerships. Ability to navigate complex stakeholder ecosystems, including donors, UN agencies, DFIs, governments, civil society, and the private sector. Creative, adaptive, and experienced in digital storytelling and innovative communication formats. Strong writing, facilitation, and presentation skills. Additional language skills in French, Spanish, Swahili, or Portuguese are highly desirable. Terms and Conditions Globally Recruited Position (GRS): Open to qualified candidates worldwide. Competitive remuneration based on experience and skills. Initial appointment: two years, with a six-month probation period and potential extension. Duty station: Nairobi, Kenya (CIFOR-ICRAF Offices).
