Position Overview Role: Research Associate (Software Development) Type: Consultancy (contract-based) Location: New Delhi, India Duration: 12 months (including 6-month probation, renewable) Application deadline: 15 May 2026 The role supports digital innovation projects aimed at improving agroforestry practices through mobile applications, decision-support tools, and web-based platforms. Key Responsibilities Mobile Application Development Review and enhance existing mobile app codebases Design and implement new app features and user interfaces Ensure consistent UI/UX design standards Conduct testing (unit, integration, user acceptance) Improve app performance and fix bugs Decision Support Tools Development Translate scientific models into interactive digital tools Develop algorithms for data input and actionable outputs Create visualisations such as charts, maps, and dashboards Ensure scalability and usability of tools Document workflows and technical processes Web Portal Management Maintain and update existing web portals Design and integrate new pages and features Develop new platforms using modern or low-code technologies Manage hosting infrastructure and ensure uptime and security Oversee database management, including backups and optimisation Implement version control and maintain technical documentation Expected Deliverables The selected consultant will be responsible for delivering: Updated and enhanced mobile applications Functional decision-support tools integrated with scientific workflows Reliable and user-friendly web portals Comprehensive technical documentation and user guides Reporting requirements include: Monthly progress reports (due on the 30th of each month) Final comprehensive report due 25 May 2027 Required Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in: Computer Science Information Technology Computer Engineering Geoinformatics Or postgraduate qualification (MCA / M.Tech. or equivalent) Experience and Technical Skills 1–2 years of experience in software development Strong knowledge of React Native (Android/iOS development) Experience in web development, hosting, and database management Ability to convert scientific workflows into digital tools Familiarity with data visualisation tools and user-centred design Desirable (but not mandatory): Understanding of remote sensing and GIS technologies Key Competencies The ideal candidate should demonstrate: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams Attention to detail in coding and documentation Adaptability in working with evolving project requirements Commitment to sustainability and development-focused work Terms and Conditions Initial contract duration: 12 months Includes a 6-month probation period Renewal subject to performance and funding availability Based in New Delhi, India CIFOR-ICRAF promotes diversity, inclusion, and gender equality, and encourages applications from women and underrepresented groups.
