The CIVICUS Global Alliance is seeking an experienced and dynamic Consultant for Meeting and Workshop Facilitation to strengthen the organisation’s convening, co-design, and communication practices. The consultant will play a vital role in ensuring that CIVICUS’ engagements—whether virtual or in-person—are inclusive, participatory, and impactful, fostering collaboration and innovation across the alliance. Working closely with the CIVICUS team, the consultant will design and facilitate sessions that empower members, partners, and staff to build collective strategies, test creative ideas, and enhance communication practices that amplify civil society voices globally. About CIVICUS CIVICUS is a growing global alliance of over 15,000 members in 175 countries, dedicated to strengthening civic and democratic space. The alliance brings together civil society organisations, activists, and communities to defend freedoms, promote inclusion, and expand participation in decision-making processes. Founded on the belief that collaboration drives sustainable change, CIVICUS’ work is guided by its Strategic Plan, which emphasizes shared learning, innovation, and solidarity—particularly with voices from the Global South and historically marginalised communities. To achieve its vision of a world where civil society is respected and enabled to thrive, CIVICUS focuses on five key objectives: Generate timely knowledge and analysis on civil society actions and trends affecting civic and democratic space. Coordinate advocacy efforts to defend and expand civic and democratic freedoms. Strengthen emergency and sustained support mechanisms for activists and organisations at risk. Shape public discourse and reinforce civil society narratives around rights, participation, and justice. Build counter power with the most affected groups and movements to challenge exclusion and inequality. Background and Objectives CIVICUS regularly convenes diverse stakeholders—members, allies, and partners—through meetings, workshops, and global events. These convenings serve as critical spaces for strategic collaboration, learning, and collective action. As part of its ongoing effort to strengthen communications, creativity, and inclusion, CIVICUS seeks a consultant with expertise in facilitation, co-design, and creative methodologies. The consultant will ensure that all engagements are dynamic, inclusive, and result in clear, actionable outcomes that advance CIVICUS’ mission to build stronger civic and democratic spaces. Key Deliverables and Responsibilities The selected consultant will: Co-design and facilitate engaging workshops, convenings, and strategy sessions—both virtual and in-person—that promote active participation and shared ownership among participants. Assess and enhance CIVICUS’ current approaches to convening, identifying opportunities to integrate innovative and relevant facilitation methods that align with the organisation’s values. Support the development of agendas and session plans, ensuring that meetings foster collaboration, collective strategy-building, and reflective learning. Facilitate creative and strategic communications sessions to strengthen CIVICUS’ approaches to storytelling, narrative building, and public engagement. Integrate wellbeing, diversity, and inclusion principles into all aspects of design and facilitation to ensure safe, accessible, and equitable participation. Produce post-session documentation, including reports and toolkits, that capture key discussions, lessons learned, and recommendations for future engagements. Advise CIVICUS teams on facilitation methodologies and practices to improve organisational communication, internal collaboration, and network engagement. Consultant Profile The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of inclusive facilitation practices, a commitment to collaborative learning, and the ability to create spaces that inspire trust and innovation. Essential Qualifications and Experience: Proven experience in designing and facilitating participatory workshops and convenings, particularly in multicultural and multi-stakeholder settings. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across diverse networks. Demonstrated capacity to translate complex discussions into clear, actionable outputs and strategies. Experience working with civil society organisations, communicators, or networks from traditionally excluded or marginalised groups. Fluency in English is required; proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset. Approach and Expected Outcomes The consultant is expected to bring a creative and adaptive approach to facilitation, integrating participatory methodologies that align with CIVICUS’ commitment to collaboration, equity, and innovation. Sessions should be designed to: Strengthen the alliance’s ability to collaborate across borders and sectors. Build participants’ confidence in strategic communication and storytelling. Produce tangible outputs and learning materials that can be applied to ongoing programmes and advocacy initiatives. Through this consultancy, CIVICUS aims to cultivate a culture of open dialogue, reflective practice, and co-creation, ensuring that its convenings and workshops contribute to real-world impact and long-term movement strengthening. Application Process Interested consultants are invited to submit the following by 31 October 2025 to comms.proposals@civicus.org, using the subject line “Meeting Facilitator”: A brief (maximum 3 pages) detailing the proposed approach and methodology for the consultancy. A short resume highlighting relevant experience, qualifications, and language proficiencies. A cost proposal, including material costs, hourly, and daily rates.
