Successful candidates will support the internationally recognized CIVICUS Monitor team, helping document civic space developments and contribute to one of the alliance’s flagship annual publications, People Power Under Attack. A Unique Opportunity to Support Global Human Rights Research The Civic Space Research Intern will play an important role in strengthening CIVICUS’ global research collaboration by supporting research activities, maintaining civic space monitoring systems, and assisting with analytical and administrative responsibilities. The selected intern will contribute to evidence-based research that informs governments, international organizations, researchers, and civil society actors about threats to fundamental freedoms around the world. Key responsibilities include: Conducting research on civic space developments and human rights issues. Supporting the implementation of the CIVICUS Monitor civic space incident tracking tool. Assisting with the collection, organization, and analysis of civic space data. Contributing to research for the annual People Power Under Attack report. Providing administrative and research support to the CIVICUS Monitor team. Who Should Apply? CIVICUS is seeking highly motivated graduates with strong analytical and communication skills who are interested in advancing democracy, human rights, and civic participation. Applicants should possess: A completed Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, or a related discipline. Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of or experience conducting human rights research. Familiarity with international human rights frameworks relating to: Freedom of expression Freedom of peaceful assembly Freedom of association Strong research and analytical abilities. Excellent organizational and administrative skills. Candidates who are proficient in another United Nations language will have an added advantage.
