Remote Consultancy Opportunity with CIVICUS Global Alliance CIVICUS Global Alliance is inviting Expressions of Interest from experienced consultants and consulting firms to lead the development of its next five-year organizational strategy covering July 2027 to June 2032. About the Consultancy Assignment As the current 2022–2027 strategy approaches completion, CIVICUS is seeking an experienced external facilitator to design and lead an inclusive, evidence-based strategic planning process. The selected consultant will work closely with the CIVICUS Strategy Core Team and the Membership Committee to develop a member-owned strategy that reflects the priorities of the organization’s diverse global membership. The assignment emphasizes transparency, participation, adaptability and ethical engagement throughout every phase of the strategy development process. The consultant will facilitate six interconnected phases: Project set-up and planning Evidence gathering and strategic sense-making Global consultation and co-creation Drafting the strategic framework Validation and Board approval Transition to implementation and operational planning The final outcome will be a practical, actionable strategy supported by measurable goals and a robust Theory of Change. Key Responsibilities The successful consultant will lead a wide range of strategic planning activities involving stakeholders across multiple regions and sectors. Primary responsibilities include: Facilitating inclusive strategy development processes across globally distributed organizations. Synthesizing organizational evidence and external research to inform strategic priorities. Designing and facilitating regional online workshops, focus groups and membership consultations. Drafting strategic goals, outcomes, indicators and a comprehensive Theory of Change. Leading validation exercises and facilitating Board strategy sessions. Supporting implementation planning, including monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) frameworks. The consultancy requires exceptional facilitation skills and the ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders working across different cultures, languages and time zones. Required Qualifications CIVICUS is seeking highly experienced consultants with a proven track record in organizational strategy and international civil society. Applicants should demonstrate: At least 10 years of experience leading organizational strategy development for international NGOs, networks or membership organizations. Expertise in participatory facilitation and stakeholder engagement across global organizations. Experience integrating evaluations and organizational learning into strategic planning. Strong knowledge of Theory of Change, results frameworks and performance measurement. Experience conducting environmental scans, political economy analysis and scenario planning. Excellent qualitative research, synthesis and strategic writing skills. Deep understanding of civic space, democracy, human rights and global civil society. Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion, safeguarding, feminist approaches and decolonial organizational practice is considered essential. Desirable Experience Additional advantages include previous work with CIVICUS or similar international alliances, experience across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Europe, and proficiency in French, Spanish or Arabic alongside English. Budget and Deliverables The consultancy has an indicative value of US$25,000–30,000, inclusive of professional fees and associated costs.
