About the Role CLEAR Global is seeking a committed and strategic Advocacy Officer to support its growing work at the intersection of language justice, data justice, and AI ethics. The role focuses on amplifying the voices of marginalised language communities and influencing policy, funding, and public discourse related to inclusive digital systems and community-led voice data initiatives. The Advocacy Officer will be a member of the Campaign Team, contributing to the organisation’s broader movement-building and influencing objectives. This role is well-suited to a professional who thrives at the intersection of community organising, messaging, and systems change in an international context. Key Responsibilities Advocacy Strategy and Implementation Collaborate with the Campaign Manager to design and implement advocacy strategies aligned with CLEAR Global’s language justice goals Identify priority advocacy targets, including governments, aid agencies, social impact organisations, technology companies, and multilateral institutions Monitor emerging opportunities in AI governance, digital inclusion, data sovereignty, and language access to influence policy, funding, and service delivery Stakeholder Engagement and Representation Represent CLEAR Global in virtual and in-person forums, including panels, consultations, coalition meetings, and advocacy events Build and maintain relationships with key allies such as human rights organisations, civil society networks, language policy groups, and open data advocates Messaging, Evidence, and Storytelling Develop advocacy materials, including policy briefs, blogs, op-eds, social media content, and formal submissions Track and amplify external research and evidence that supports language justice, inclusive technology, and data ethics narratives Translate community insights, lived experiences, and data into compelling messages that drive awareness and action Work closely with Monitoring and Learning colleagues to integrate impact evidence and community feedback into advocacy outputs Community and Partner Support Provide advocacy support to community fellows and partner organisations through coaching, co-creation of talking points, and resource development Identify advocacy opportunities for partners and facilitate introductions to relevant platforms and stakeholders Monitor language policy and technology developments in active regions and advise on appropriate response strategies Fundraising Support Contribute to identifying funding opportunities aligned with advocacy priorities Support the development of funding concepts and proposals Assist in crafting persuasive narratives and identifying supporting evidence for funding applications Please note that responsibilities may evolve as organisational priorities and activities develop. Candidate Profile Essential Requirements Bachelor’s degree in humanities or a related field (Master’s degree preferred) At least 3 years of experience in advocacy, campaigns, public affairs, or movement-building, particularly in international or Global South contexts Experience in communications and advocacy within complex, cross-cultural environments Strong understanding of human rights, digital inclusion, language rights, or data ethics Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive and inclusive messaging Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust across cultures High level of self-direction, adaptability, and ability to manage competing priorities Willingness to work in a small, collaborative team and explore diverse outreach mechanisms Willingness to travel, sometimes at short notice and to insecure locations, in compliance with organisational security protocols Desirable Attributes Multilingual, with working proficiency in French or another language spoken by marginalised communities Personal or lived experience of language exclusion Familiarity with linguistic marginalisation, data injustice, or participatory advocacy approaches Benefits and Working Conditions In addition to salary, CLEAR Global offers: A flexible, fully remote working environment A diverse, mission-driven, and innovative team culture 20 days of annual leave plus 10 floating holidays (prorated for part-time staff) Accommodation and per diem when travelling on assignment Additional Information CLEAR Global reserves the right to re-advertise the position, amend the job description, adjust the contract duration, or cancel the recruitment process at its discretion.
