About Climate Central Climate Central is an independent nonprofit organization made up of scientists and science communicators dedicated to researching and reporting on climate change and its real-world impacts. The organization uses: Climate science research Data analysis Visual storytelling Technology-driven reporting Localized climate communication to help audiences better understand climate-related issues affecting communities globally. Its work spans key climate topics such as: Sea level rise Extreme weather Climate science Energy transitions Environmental change Climate adaptation solutions Climate Central collaborates with journalists, meteorologists, researchers, and media organizations across more than 150 countries, significantly expanding public access to reliable climate information. Overview of the Writer and Associate Editor Role The Writer and Associate Editor will support Climate Central’s editorial and communications operations by producing high-quality climate-focused content and managing editorial workflows. The selected candidate will work closely with: Scientists Designers Technologists Writers Communications teams Editorial professionals The role reports directly to the Vice President for Content Creation and supports the production of Climate Matters, Climate Central’s weekly data-driven publication. Key Responsibilities Writing and Editorial Support The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of editorial projects, including explainers, reports, and science communication materials. Primary responsibilities include: Researching and writing climate-related articles Producing science explainers and data-driven reports Revising and editing editorial content Copy editing for clarity, consistency, and scientific accuracy Identifying emerging climate trends and research topics Engaging with subject matter experts The role requires the ability to transform complex scientific information into accessible content suitable for public audiences. Editorial Operations and Workflow Coordination The Writer and Associate Editor will also support production management and editorial planning. Responsibilities include: Coordinating editorial workflows Managing publishing timelines Maintaining editorial planning systems Tracking assignments and project deliverables Supporting accountability across cross-functional teams Assisting with weekly Climate Matters publication schedules The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously. Content Quality Assurance Another critical aspect of the role involves ensuring editorial and scientific quality standards are maintained. Tasks include: Coordinating scientific review processes Managing subject matter expert feedback Conducting pre-publication quality assurance checks Verifying content accuracy and functionality Ensuring consistency in editorial standards Attention to detail and editorial judgement are essential for success in this position. Required Skills and Qualifications Climate Central is searching for candidates with strong science communication and editorial experience. Salary and Employee Benefits The Writer and Associate Editor position offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.
