This fully remote freelance position offers creative autonomy and the opportunity to directly support the sustainability of independent, award-winning climate journalism. The successful candidate will act as a bridge between the editorial and development teams, driving audience growth and subscription conversion. This role is central to increasing brand visibility, nurturing reader relationships, and transforming engaged readers into paying subscribers. Role Overview This is a strategic growth position focused on: Expanding paid subscriptions Strengthening audience engagement Increasing brand recognition Driving website traffic and reader retention Supporting income generation through data-informed marketing The role requires strong communication skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to use audience insights to inform strategy. A background in digital marketing, subscriptions, or sales is highly desirable, along with an interest in climate communications. With a global readership, working hours are flexible but should maximise collaboration with colleagues and audience engagement across time zones. Primary Responsibilities Marketing & Communications Manage and grow the organisation’s LinkedIn presence Publish engaging content and interact with key stakeholders Increase brand recognition and audience reach Disseminate partner content as agreed Support subscription growth through strategic communications Newsletters (Climate Weekly & Event Bulletins) Lead newsletter strategy and execution Grow and maintain a high-quality mailing list Optimise open and click-through rates through A/B testing Improve design and layout to increase reader engagement Support revenue growth via subscriber conversion SEO & AI Optimisation Ensure high-quality SEO across published content Target keywords that reach core audiences Maximise visibility on search engines and AI platforms Drive traffic to support subscription growth Engagement & Stewardship Strengthen reader relationships through targeted communication Enhance user experience across digital platforms Build and nurture a global reader community Monitoring & Reporting Track KPIs related to subscriptions, engagement, and traffic Provide timely impact reports to colleagues and donors Inform editorial and strategic decision-making through data Audience Insight Analyse data from Brevo, social platforms, and Google Analytics Update and refine audience personas Conduct surveys and direct reader engagement Share insights to guide editorial and marketing strategies Events (Online & In-Person) Support development and delivery of webinars and livestreamed events Contribute to a planned in-person event during London Climate Action Week Use events to grow audience, increase brand recognition, and drive subscriptions Impact Tracking & Dissemination Monitor citations, awards, and external mentions Share impact stories via posts and newsletters Highlight the organisation’s influence in climate policy circles Secondary Responsibilities Media Partnerships Collaborate to develop partnerships that expand reach and audience Leverage partnerships to increase subscription conversions Website Optimisation Improve user experience and engagement time Increase repeat visits and click-through rates Support site optimisation strategies that drive subscription revenue About Climate Home News Climate Home News is an independent English-language digital news service reporting on the international politics of the climate crisis and the global energy transition.
